A wonderful day.

I'd like to say I had a wonderful day today!  A cold front came down to cool things off a bit - I think the high temp was 86!    I was in the yard and garden working for 5 hours or so and loved every minute of it.

Here's a few pictures from my day!

Great day, great Picts!  What are the red, wormy center flowers?

I bet you loved that cold front!  Relief after such heat!  Your fig trees and garden look very healthy!  Happy you had such a wonderful day!

Thanks for sharing!

Isn't it amazing how little it takes to amuse a figger/gardener, in my case an older one, I am easily amused, and sometimes distracted, LOL

BTW - THATS NOT A BAD THING!!!

Hi Danny, the red "wormy center" flowers are Penta, here's a picture.  Very heat tolerant, but not drought tolerant.  They also attract Hummingbirds and Butterflies This was the first year with the garden, so there was a lot of experimenting to see what would do well.

Plans for next year are to work on my fig hedge and come up with an idea for the rest of the garden and how to do the rest of my back yard.

Very nice!

weather was also wonderful here this weekend. almost felt like autumn planted 8 roses. one of them is named "barbara bush". i just couldn't resist getting that one. i must be one of the very few that thinks father and son bush weren't such a bad presidents.

oh.. and i had to get "elizabeth taylor". just because.. i wonder if they have one called "marilyn monroe"..

O.K.

It's going to be difficult over the next few weeks, but let's please keep politics off the board... OK?

Thanks.

There you go Gina.  I fixed it.

Thanks Mike. :)

Yes, there is. It's very distinctive for it's flesh-colored petals - the pic below does not do it justice. I would guess 'they' were saving the name for such a voluptous rose to be developed.

If you ever want to see rose images and names, ancestry, etc there is an excellent site helpmefind.com  roses. They also do Clematis, and now Peonies.

wow.. that is beautiful rose. i wonder if it smell nice.

It is a very pretty rose, but I do not believe it is fragrant since I did not want to grow it. By the way, don't believe what you read about this rose or that one being fragrant - you have to smell them yourself. The catalogs do not tell the truth - they are more concerned with selling you something.

One of my favorites is Veteran's Honor.  Late in the season for photos, but it's a prolific large red tea rose with long stems and it has that killer rose fragrance.  It stays fresh for many days in a vase.

I've thought of air layering it, but I fear prosecution, so it's on my bare root list for the new property.  I need about 10 of those!!  Our Lady of Guadalupe is a favorite just for its floribunda forever pink blooms!  Diana, Princess of Wales is another beauty!  Garden web rose forum is the place for this discussion!

Here, a lot of destruction of gardens happened suddenly last night.  Wind lightening and thunder came out of nowhere.  Serious wind!  Had to go about 30 miles for my allergy shots today and the streets were littered with torn branches, fallen trees, and citrus rolling everywhere!  Our garden was fine.  We lost some branches, but they won't be missed.

Still, your day in your garden was ideal and fun for you!  Happy you had that wonderful day!

Yes there is a Marilyn Monroe rose, hybrid tea if I recall. Try Edmunds Roses, it's pale yellow.
