Oh, my!  Hope everyone is alright.  At least you can re-build?

Nate

Aw man, I'm sorry to see that.  Almost looks like a tornado hit it.

Oh that sucks big time. Sorry to see that Paully.

Wow, sorry to see that!

How strong were your winds?  Is that a Harbor Freight greenhouse?  I was thinking of buying one 4-5 years ago and found a thread online somewhere about steps a person made to beef up the strength of their Harbor Freight greenhouse which they claimed made it a much better greenhouse.

My greenhouse was originally made for over-wintering bananas and is 12' on the sides (16' at ridge) and covered with poly film.  Some people originally questioned its integrity but it withstood 65 mph winds and heavy rain about a year after I made it.  My next greenhouse will probably be like it but shorter.

So sorry Paul.
Hope everything is ok. I hope the weather is fine now so you can rebuilt it.

Norhayati

Wow, so sorry Paully.
I would email the photos to the manufacturer.

Wow, that is terrible to see........Hope you have the receipt, I would return it if possible.

Its a Palram Green house from Costco.

Will start rebuilding this weekend. Definitely making it stronger this time. Good news is that the weather is not that
cold & I don't need to move my trees into the garage which is quite loaded with fig trees too.

ah.. that sucks! sorrry

wow.. that's some damage. hope things work out.

Sorry for the mishap!

I have read stories about Harbor Freight greenhouses
being worthless unless re-enforced against heavy-snow
and more so, against strong-winds...

Good luck.
I am confident that all you figs will survive their brief cold encounter.

Sorry to see that. Was it anchored down? My tent green house blew over and got mangled a few times in the wind, but it took a lot less wind to do it.

I have the same one from Harbor Freight. 1/3 of the roof fell in from the weight of the snow a week ago. I had it screwed down to 6x6's on the bottom and built an internal frame to double as shelves and stabilization from winds. It was no match for the snow though. I'll rebuild mine, but I'm not happy! Sorry for your loss. I know how it feels.

Sorry to see that Paully, to bad we all don't live near each other we could have a good old fashion greenhouse raising...

Sorry to see that, Paully.  Always remember it could always be worse.

What a heartbreaker.
The foundation for the greenhouse looks intact.  Was it the aluminum frame that couldn't hold the polycarbonate panels?
How bad were the wind gusts?  Hope Costco or the vendor step up with their 5yr mfg warranty.  It looks like the design may not be up to their stated specifications.

Sorry for your misfortune!
I have been looking at similar models to build, but my site is exposed to a lot of wind.
Two questions - first for Paully - any idea how high the wind speed was?
And for anyone - other than anchoring well to the ground, what can be done to reinforce similar models?

Wow that stinks.

That's a horrific sight. Makes me hurt to see it.  I hope everything else is OK.
There should be a rating system for these greenhouses that are flooding the market.  On mine the plastic strips that hold the panels together are warping and twisting and popping out the panels.  I keep adding duct tape to close the seams.  It's beginning to look like a mummy.
Mine was purchased online from  "Our Crazy Deals" That name should have made me wonder. They sent a different model with a high door threshold. It's a bad trip hazard.  I kept complaining and asking for the model I had ordered and eventually Mastercard made them reimburse the purchase price but not the $$ I'd paid 2 men to assemble it for me.

I'm sure sorry you're going through this.

Soni

I am so sorry this happened to you.  I hope everything inside survives, and that you are able to rebuild with no problems.

Suzi

Sorry for your misfortune, bet them Figs will be fine, while you rebuild!

That sucks, I am sorry to hear about that, I hope the rebuild goes smoothly

Hi pauly22,
Sorry for you . Man, what a nightmare sight !
To reinforce the greehouse, you could set it against the house so that the wind is not so strong.
You could as well, put the greenhouse near or under trees, or have trees around it to cut the wind .

But well, if the wind wants it, it will have it .
The only way to make a greenhouse stronger is to make it heavy - It is not really feasible unless bought for that purpose.

My garden house - to store shovels... - is made of corrugated iron panels that I assembled myself with a wooden framework . It is really unbreakable.
I had clear plastic/polycarbonate panels for the roof and had to replace them with corrugated iron frames because the firsts got blasted by the wind, snow and rain .
I don't know if some of you have tried the thin iron garden house that you can buy - they are not that much expensive ... Well, forget about them, or you'll get the same troubles.
My three neighbors found their own totally opened and flat in the middle of their gardens - blasted by the wind blow.
One day while in the garden, I saw a small tornado forming, growing and sliding through the walkway - I had never seen that before !
Since then, I planted some trees to break the wind blow.

sorry to hear that. If you need a helping hand to rebuild and live near Ambler PA, please PM me.
