A very large Common fig (in excess of 100 g average) quite attractive sweet, flavored and extremely syrupy.
At the point of ripeness shown on the pictures, it is rather fresh and fruity, a mix of delicious flavors from the dark berries to hints of passion fruit.
I love to eat it early morning, cool,  under the fig tree. Very difficult to stop eating these jewels! ..(the blood sugars !!)

Great photos - thx.
I had to go out and have a nice conversation with my Abebereira tree after seeing these pictures. We agreed on a new larger pot later this afternoon along with some aged bunny manure and micronutrients. In return I'll get a bit more growth before dormancy sets in. Hopefully I'll get figs next year.

I'm glad you came to an understanding Michael ! I have to have that conversation with a couple of mine. I am currently starting to up pot my 1 gal's and other trees to larger pots. 

Unfortunately sciatica has been holding me down these past few weeks.

My Abebereira didn't make it from a cutting this year, it was only one and quite thin though.

I spent 2 hours doing inventory of the figs I have up off the ground. Next it's the other half -- what a pain -- but necessary for trading purposes. I can only up pot about 6 plants a day as I'm still recovering from my car crash - but I still love up potting as the soil smells so good and the plants are so happy about it.

I hope your pain goes away. It's great weather down here in Virginia to get out side work done. It's usually hot and super muggy this time of the year but this year we are getting the oddest cool wet weather. We'll be lucky to break the 80 degree mark today and more rain tonight and tomorrow. It's just crazy weather. My tomatoes don't even want to ripen.

Michael, taking about crazy weather. Here I am 45 miles SW of
Atlanta and our high yesterday was 67. So far today 64. Normally
we would be at least 89 which is the average. I have had an abundance
of tomatoes but splitting had really been a problem with over 10 inches
of rain in July and already 5 inches in August.

Thanks Michael , appreciate the kind thoughts. We had a couple of cool days and I got a few potted. Unfortunately I pay for it next day! Been using a tens unit and it gives me a little relief . Problem is as soon as I feel a bit better - out I go and pot ! Stubborn and gotta get it done lol.
This week going to be hot and very humid - been crazy!

I got three cuttings of Abebereira from Jon this past winter.
I promptly turned them into six cuttings, and I managed to kill
all but one (too much love).
My one sorry looking survivor really started taking off in June, and
is now almost 2' tall. I don't know if it will ever be productive in my
area, but even if it isn't, I will keep it.
What a gorgeous looking interior on those figs!
What I wouldn't do for a big plate of those, with some slices of
Presunto (prosciutto) and an ice cold Heineken!

Tom, yes the more sun you give them the better.
This particular variety seems to me to be much demanding and if all goes well, when fully ripe shows a perfectly filled interior with jelly to spare...even before you cut it, you have a good feeling of what you are going to see due to its 'high density'...it is not only big but heavy as well. some figs get to the 150+grams...  The figs shown on the pictures were certainly visited by the insect, given the full and deep red insides.

At home we do it many times...As I cannot (allergy) even smell milk my plate is supplied with presunto caseiro which I love to eat with fresh figs and some melon cubes... The rest of the family goes for the
cottage cheese, beer or the sparkling 'vinho verde' goes very well with it

I think it is possible.  They do look quite a bit different, but both claim great taste.  Do you think we can get Francisco to tape up the eye on a few this year?  Fig heaven might be as close as I get to any heaven.

The fig shown is the light Abebereira which we call Bebera Branca

Its black sister ...we call Bebera Preta you may see on this topic:

Pete is right  The lighter fig was pollinated...otherwise we could never show those colors, juices, size, etc.

The black fruit has not been visited by the wasp.

Bêbera Preta (black) is an average to large fig of approx.  60 to 80 gr (non-pollinated)

Bêbera Branca (light colored) somehow bigger, .. 100 gr,  but in excess of 150 gr if pollinated

Thank you. Unfortunately it is not an early fig.. on the contrary, it ripes immediately after the Smyrna varieties by late August and through September..October.
This fig needs  long and sunny hot Summer days to ripe properly.. my zone is 10++, rather arid

This fig is a full Parthenocarpic / Persisten fruit. It ripens late and without any pollination.

However if you tell your wasps to pay them a visit, this will be immediately and  unconditionally accepted by both parties and the results are on the first row of pictures on this topic.
The figs on the plate, shown just a couple of threads above are of the same variety but without pollination.
This may well  illustrate graphically the benefits of pollination.. Another story is when you bite a chunk of the fruit and those syrupy juices flood your palate !!

Gary, the fig you show on your pictures as Abebereira, seems to me to be the black cultivar
Bêbera Preta which is not the same as Beb.Branca. It will be a smaller fig.

Francisco, Gary's tree came from me.  It was taken from cuttings from my tree which was started from cuttings obtained from Encanto Farms (Jon), a reliable source.  My trees did not fruit yet last year but should this year.

my Beb. Branca is sourced other than jon or marius. will be a yr or two before i can post the fig. and little longer before i can share the cuttings. isn't jon's from same location where Figo Preto is from? pointblima or something?

Yes, Jon's came from the original tree called Abebereira in Point Loma where we also got Figo Preto and Figo Branco (okay, it's called Figo Branca but that naming convention is wrong and painful to even write, LOL).

Estella had a heavy accent, was at first soft-spoken to this stranger and didn't know how to spell the names. I did my best to get the names right but &**% happens. ;-) The trees she had were the Abebereria (Bebera Preta according to Francisco), a long black fig with red interior. Also Bebera Branca, which she first called Branco then figo branco then bebera branca. The third tree she had is Preto. You can stop calling the Figo Branco Figo Branco and mark it as Bebera Branca. :-)

Estella's Bebera Branca looks like Francisco's interior shots, has a large breba fig but I don't remember it having any purple on the skin. It could be lack of caprificaion but that's a guess. The breba are significantly larger than the main crop by double, ripen early in late June to early July so may be a good candidate for colder climates. Trials would be helpful to determine if this is so.

We lost Estella last August and were not able to contact the new owner regarding cuttings this past Jan.

What led me to comment on Gary's fig and say that it looked like Bebera Preta, were the leaves, but I may be wrong. Best will be to wait and see what the fruit look like.. his and yours.
Bebera Branca leaves are different. Hope to send a couple of pictures tomorrow just for information.

I hope some day, things change and you will be able to root some  Beb. Branca sticks. and grow those fine figs. Your environment seems ideal just like Harvey's and you both are close to that tool Nature has created to refine the qualities of most figs.
As for Branco or Branca...Figo Branco, etc   I have seen on a number of your threads, I would like to throw in my 2 cents...
IMO, this seems to be the Lampa Branca cultivar, pomologicaly under the Cachopeiro Family of fig varieties.

(Cachopeiro means two crops -Breba and Main Crop without pollination) - to differentiate from San Pedro

Lampa Branca produces large brebas and a main crop of fine white figs ideal for drying as well as for marmalade, jellys etc .
It is very popular in Eastern Algarve. Brebas appear in early June. I have no Lampa Branca, but soon will try and let you have more information and a set of pictures.

Francisco, my Abebereira should fruit this year though I don't see any fruit forming yet.

So then, we are all in agreement. My AberbereiraBeberaPretaFigoBrancoBrancaLampo is a Portuguese variety. Cool.   Seriously though, thank you Francisco for sharing your insights to this forum. It's great to have your knowledge available. Harvey, your tree will certainly ripen fruit before mine, and hopefully provide definitive answers. What I'm certain of, is that my young tree is growing very vigorously, and I'm excited at the thought of it producing tasty figs.

Estella's Abebereria with leaf. Second pic is Bebera Branca breba (say that 3 times!) with Abebereria. The third pic is my Abebereria tree last year. I didn't get any of the fruit, raccoons got them.
