Achieving Dormancy and Leaves Dropping

I am puzzled by the losing and not losing of the leaves on my two fig plants. We hit 23F~25F three weeks ago so I brought the plants inside for a week. Then it became balmy between 35F~45F so I put the plants outside. The leaves remained green and fresh looking. Recently it went back to seasonal 20F to 25F at night for the last week. My trees were still outside and the leaves still looked fresh and green. As soon as I brought the plants inside again, the leaves started drying up and falling. My question is "Why were they looking fresh and green outside and started getting dry as soon as I brought them in"? The leaves are not going through normal fall from the tree but curling and drying up. Is it because the cold temperatures outside kept the moisture in the leaves and made them look fresh?

It takes time. The leaves do not respond instantly to environmental/climatic changes.
