Hi! Grasa,

How are you? First I would like to say thank you for kindness. My name is Tam. Please let me know if you still have Adriatic Cuttings available. I would like to have 6 Adriatic Cuttings. Please let me know your address so I can send the money to you. This is my email: anlacpham@aol.com. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Tam

Wow Grasa!  I take my hat off to you.  You did amazing work here! I shake my pom poms at you and cheer! *shake shake shake*

Grasa,

The cuttings you sent have sprouted roots after only 10 days in the moss!  The largest/thickest one (about 1 inch in diameter) showed roots of almost an inch yesterday, and today the next largest two also have them.  I’ve never had cuttings with such a willingness to grow--I hope it’s a sign that they'll be vigorous enough to do well in my climate here in northern WV.  :)

Thanks again for undertaking this project.  I appreciate your kindness.

So glad to hear, Mimi... keep us updated. It was not an undertaking at all. The most difficult was to put the cash out for postage...but I am so greatful that all 58 people who received them already send me the postage...  and some even sent me tip, which was very nice and appreciated.  Mine are also rooting like that, that is why I grafted a few varieties on those fatties.  I still have a few (fatties) to share.

Hi! Grasa, how are you? I received my cuttings this afternoon. Thank you.

Best,
Tam

Hi Grasa,

Just a follow up on the Adriatic cuttings you were so kind to share in April.  I had put a few in the refrigerator and did a late rooting attempt in July.  To my shock the cuttings were screaming to get out of the moss 14 days later.  As you can see below, there was no problem with root growth!  Now, if I can just move them up successfully, is the question.

For a first timer, I’ve had my share of disasters this spring.   At first, I figured I was god’s gift to fig propagation.  Everything rooted!  Heck, I could root a Popsicle stick!  Then, three weeks into the cups and everything seemed to go to hell in a hurry.  Looking back, autopsies on many victims, bla, bla, and it appears I made all of the typical beginner mistakes.  Others have written the gory detail in previous post…. too much water, etc.  !   I should get an award too, for the gnat farm I had going…..urgh.  Totally took over, they did!   Also, think maybe I had too many cuttings going to keep up on also!    I just feel bad that I lost many cuttings that were so generously given to me by other forum members.  Not all a loss though, I figure!   While I’ve learned so much (the hard way), I’ve had considerable successes and some beautiful fig babies going.  Despite failures I’ve enjoyed the experience overall and looking forward to next year’s cutting season!

Here a photo of the Adriatic rooting monster mentioned above, plus one of your early Adriatic cuttings that escaped the gnat invasion.  Thanks again for your generosity…….

Thanks for sharing. I wonder how many of those cutting made it out there. Your plant looks very good, should produce fruit next year. Must be that hot Cali's sun. Mine are not that big.

Grasa,

Thank you for some really nice cuttings a while back! I have 3 that grew 2-3 ft tall and going! Plus 2 with grafts.
I was wondering if anybody has seen any figlets yet? Mine do not have any ...
What color is inside and outside?

Bump...
Does anybody still have the Grasa's cuttings?...

I do. However I kept mine in a smaller pot too long. As soon as I put it in a bigger pot it shot up 3 ft. That thing is on steroids!!!!!!!!!! lol How did yours do?

I have one gallon plants.

I have many.  They almost all rooted.  I gave some away and still probably have at least 5-8 of them even after giving some away.  Lost count.  I have figlets, but none ripe.  Next year will have some ripe ones for sure.

I have several don't know how many now and put them up for the winter.  Most are still in 1 gallon pots but I think I had up potted a couple to maybe 3 gallon.  They were looking good when I put them up last week.

Sunday EDIT:

The cuttings are from an no-protected tree in nasty Seattle Weather, it sits in the east side of a tall house, getting not much light from very near by houses - The only sun it gets is that morning sun,  believe me, we donot have many morning suns in Seattle.

All I am asking is, those interested in receiving the cuttings, is to compensate for postage.  I'll send regular USPS no track, and everyone gets it, about $3 for 2-3 cuttings.

I will pack  today, there is no room in my refrigerator for all these cuttings, please claim yours.

2nd EDIT:

Please indicate if you want more than 3 cuttings, and I will use the post office flat rate box full, that is about $6. Your choice, I just chopped the branches and have more than 50 juicyand healthy cuttings, with some looking like could easily be instant trees, but not sure how to ship those, would need a larger box. From now, I have them in a bucket with water, in my basement. Tonight, I want to get them all ready to travel early next week.

MONDAY EDIT- OVERWELMING RESPONSE - so many packages to process and close.  I still have many more to finish - so many PMs that becaming a bit confusing for me, please be patient with me. I should have been more prepared, but I did not cut them the same size, so, making individual wrapping is time consuming. I  will pick up more flat rate boxes at the Post Office today.  I am very short in cash for over 60 packages, even at $3 and $6, it adds up, so, please send me the postage as soon as you can.  Hope everyone will receive them by the weekend.  They are properly stored  and well cared for now.

DESCRIPTION: No pictures of the leaves of the  fruits of this tree, but  this is is how the owner describes them, other than this, we'll have to wait and find out:

"They are Adriatic figs and they look just like the ones in this photo.

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jul/08/food/la-fo-marketwatch-20110708

The tree is extremely prolific and they mainly ripen between August 15-31. "

APRIL 3RD EDIT- RE SHIPPING/postage/ CARING FOR CUTTINGS UPON RECEIVING THEM:

1-  With exceptions of a couple, all packages went out today! Huge task I had no idea how time consuming  and overwelming this was - too many packages! ALL PROMISED TO ARRIVE ON 4/5.

2 -I charged over $180 in postage to my credit card, so I need you all to send me the amounts we agreed, if you need to confirm your amount, please send me PM, I'll review the Post Office's receipt.

3- WARNING: The cuttings have not been pre-washed, so please give them a good bath of dish soap with a little bleach to kill any insect eggs that may have survived the winter in Seattle. Do that in warm water, not to shock the cuttings. Trim a tiny bit from my cuts, if they arrive in 'dry' paper - should have some moist in. If they arrive dry, after washing, give them a chance to recover by soaking them in warm/tepid water for about 20 min before you put them in rooting chambers.
Taking these steps does not garantee that they will root, but it will help keep any bugs that may had taken a ride with them.

Wish good luck to you all.

- STILL SOME AVAILABLE but they are about 3/4 to 1" - can send them in a $5.80 flat box
Do you have any more of the ADRIATIC JH  cuttings or trees for sale??? i would like probably the 6.00 full of them if possible
thanks I HOPE YOUR SAYING THEY ARE ONLY 3/4 TO 1" LONG???

THEFIGSTER
