aerate soil in cups

I have a Panache I am growing in a cup right now, which is very healthy.  For some reason, the Promix I always use has become very compact in this cup.  I've never had it be so compact before (maybe more roots than usual?).

My question is, should I try to aerate the soil or anything?  If I fill the top half inch of the cup with water, it takes 3-4 minutes for the pool to drain into the soil.  I have plenty of drain holes in the cup and I've never had this issue before, so I assume it is the compact soil causing the slow drain.

Thanks!

if you have to many roots it may be time to repot

Up pot.

OK, thanks for the advice.  It's only been growing two weeks but maybe it's growing faster than usual.

Sqeeze cup to loosen soil then add water only when it becomes near dry. Two weeks you still should have time to further grow in your cup too much room is not a good thing for rooting. Think of the plants you buy at a nursery that look beautiful. They are all root bound. When the cup is full of roots then you up pot to a container twice the size of you cup Then you up pot to a one gallon after a tight root ball is established. This ensures a fast growing heathy plant. Otherwise you can have a weak sliw growing tree. Figs like tight root system. My findings from my past experience.
