After 73 Days of 100+ Temps...

... we're having the hottest day of the year today @ 108F.  Tomorrow will be even hotter at 111F.  I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be getting any figs off my trees this year.

Thats some hot weather you must melt when you walk outside.
Are the trees growing at all in that heat?

Jim,

I broke a sweated through a shirt sitting in the shade this morning.  LOL

All of my trees froze to the ground last winter.  They got a little growth on them before the onset of heat.  On top of the heat we are in an "exceptional drought".  In the past two months, we've had .14" of rain.  Only .04" of that was in the past six weeks.  I've extended the watering intervals for my fig trees to once every three weeks for water conservation reasons.  Ta'cenc is the first one to show signs of stress so I use that as a barometer for the other trees.  The other fruit trees can only go about 1.5 weeks without water.  I'm still hopeful there will be a long spell of "not so hot" weather before winter comes this year and my trees will grown and maybe even put out some figs.  I suppose we'll see.

Yeah it seems like this year went from cold to hot we had no spring here at all I hope it doesn't go from hot to freezing that would be damaging to all the plants.
Maybe next year will be normal what ever that is LOL

I saw this story in the news the other day.  Death Valley heat
