Way to go Martin,

Kick us when we're down. LOL

You're sitting on top of the Fig World.

Enjoy it!

Wowwww.Nice looking fig how is this fig compared to HC?Thank you for sharing.

Rafed no no kick when down i would say get up and enjoy some of these figs !
Just me and another family membe that eats them, coming years i have to learn how to make fig bread and preserves and maybe dry some as well.

I did dry some on plywood with cheese cloth on patio table one season and to me very good not like the store dry figs i bought.

I posted a picture of the last couple i had left going in January 2009.
Not sure if picture still on forum cause when i deleted them out of photobucket for personal reasons they went away here to.
Here is that picture if your curious next to bag of store ones that i did not like.

An astounding after dinner treat, Martin. Beat the ice cream for sure.

I'm with Navid. Thanks, Martin.

I've been picking a few Dark Portuguese here and there. I left some that weren't completely ripe and they behaved well in this rain while some others varieties behaved bad in the rain. I have to say that Dark Portuguese is  a really tasty varieties.

The Negretta did split in the rain, it tastes good but I think the Ronde de Bordeaux has a richer flavor.

Rob the taste while good is not steady on each fig like last season where it tasted similar to my HC.
This plant badly needs rootwork . So i did get share of badly split figs that i had to toss, i tasted a few and they were bad. I had no choice but to constantly water this plant as its soil just cant hold any water its mostly roots now.  The ones that are nice and ripe this season are a mild version of hardy chicago to me compared to last season when they tasted more similar.

Bass, yeah Ronde and Negretta 2 completely different tasting figs for me. For me i enjoy both now.It may be hard for you to bring in another "dark type" like Ronde that has that flavorful taste and grows like a weed. It does it all on its too.  ; )
Edit: and thanks everyone .

Thank you Martin

Martin, it must have been a real treat to have some of your figs to enjoy in the winter. When the snow is deep, and there is no sign of life, not a single green leaf. . . I shudder to think of it! SO worth the effort to preserve the fruits of summer!
