Aftermath of bird attack

This is the first time I have had this much damage to my figs so they have finally been discovered.  I watched early in the morning today and that is when the birds try to have a good breakfast.  I saw that a robin was feeding on my figs but I was surprised to find a Baltimore Oriole under the netting on my Negronne.  What kills me is that they don't just eat one fig, they eat a little from anything that looks ripe.  Luckily I was able to console myself with some untouched ripe figs.

That little Robin you were feeding told his buddies about your kindness and limitless supply of fig!

You need tortoises to feed the bird damaged figs to so they don't go totally to waste..

Your birds need further training to reach their full potential. Mine seldom leave anything but the stem.

Those little scoundrels!

I have to admit, a bird found my figs and pecked at it - I cut that part off and ate the rest.

I"m with you, Jo-Ann!  I've cut a lot of bird-pecked spots off!

i need to train the birds to finish off what they started.. it's just nasty looking at the half eaten figs on the tree with bunch of ants crawling around.

Here in northeast Kansas, I am having a significant issue with bird damage that I have not experienced before.    After visiting with another local fig collector, I am thinking that the problem is worse because of the extreme drought we are experiencing.   Water is probably in very short supply for the birds and the figs are providing both moisture and food!

Speaking of hungry animals, I was anticipating getting the last two figs on a small Adriatic plant. While watering I noticed that not only were the figs missing, but so was the end of the branch...   Not sure who got it.  Could be groundhogs (they mowed down some young fig starts last fall).   Opossums and raccoons are also on the list of suspects.

I wonder if eating figs makes a bird taste better? Just a thought.
