Afternoon Treat - Pastiliere

These Pastiliere figs were a pleasure to eat.
The taste was of mulberry and the other fig i detected mulberry with some type of faint melon note that it ended on.

The coloring is nice as well despite the mid 40 degree nights here and daily highs in highs in the 50s the last 6 days.
Its 57 out here now.

Beautiful fig.  I love the last picture, with the sun sparkling.

Martin are the leaves of pastilliere smaller than most other varieties?

Are they smaller i would say no at this point some leaves average size and some large at this stage of plants age which is 2 full season old this past june.
Thanks.

Martin, you are killing me with all the pics of Pastilliere!   Or maybe just a little jealousy.  I have yet to find a dark fig in this area - or rather with the 100 or more trees I've found so far, I haven't noticed any dark ones yet.  I was able to buy some Black Mission from from Fresh Market a month ago that were pretty good, but not what I envision Pastilliere or any of your other darks to taste like!

Quick question:

Has the origin ever been settled? Is it a Japanese variety imported to France and given a French name or is it a French Introduction?
