Air layer cutting time has come

My air layer is well rooted and normally I would cut the branch when the rooting is this good.  The problem is that the branch is covered with figs that are no where near ripe.  I would give up the figs to save the layer but I guess I would like to have my cake (figs) and eat it as well.   I am assuming that if I cut the layer and pot it up I will probably lose the figs, is this correct?  because this layer is a branch it is not a big deal but if it were a major trunk it could be a significant loss of figs.

yes indeedy.. it has come. i need to set some this yr.

On the other hand, you could freshen the air layer and leave it in place a couple of months.  So long as there is sufficient space/moisture, I'd guess that the subject limb would be happy to hang in there a while.  Perhaps a watering and some fresh moss -- in a larger propagation package?

Hi dkirtexas,
Is that strain making brebas ?
If it does make brebas - I would wait for the brebas to ripe and cut the airlayer after harvest and remove any maincrop appearing.
If it is unifera, as long as the roots are enough to support the top growth, I would cut and remove half of the figs, just leave 5 or 10 for the fun .

You know what they say here ?
You cant' get everything: You can't have the butter (figs in your case) and the money for the butter (airlayer) , and not either the lady that made the butter :) and the farm ... (list goes on and on ).

Ken, up-potting the layer..I love it. That is a good idea for this scenario.
