I removed 4 air-layers today. They were started LAST summer. They did not take off very fast, and I just left them on over the winter (OK what we call winter here in paradise). So they have been on for about 11 months.

Two were well-rooted, and sporting fruit, which was removed. One was still not well rooted, but it was time to sink or swim. The last one was very poorly rooted. I was going to leave it, until I realized that the original tree had died, and the air-layer was all that was left - so as poorly as it was rooted, it was surviving on the roots it had.

So, air-layers can be left on over the winter. Wasn't sure how tat was going to work out.

I was tempted to leave the one attached so I could see the fruit ripen, but chose to remove it.
