Air layering

Does anyone air layer in the spring, im guessing its too late to aire layer this fall. Was thinking of trying to air layer in march in the heated greenhouse. Any sugestions.. my trees are 50 to 60 inches in height with not much branching. Ten gallon pots.

Give it a shot. If it doesn't take, although I think you have enough time, you could always take it aloose.

in my limited experience (~40 air layers), it works better when temperatures are warm.  Air layers here can take 7-8 weeks in a normal spring (early May to early July), but more like 10-12 weeks in a cool spring (like this year), and only 4-5 weeks in a warm summer (mid July to mid/late August).

Ok , thx... ill probly heat greenhouse in march and start my airlayers. Sounds like my best bet.

Hi,
Last year I setup an airlayer in August, but in October I couldn't see any evidence of roots.
I left it on until July this year. I still couldn't see roots but the sucker was just a tree and shading his mum. It had to come off.
I cut it. There were in fact two root-shoots. One was rooted while the second had only 5 roots of 1cm of length(1/3'') .
I put each one in a pot. The rooted one is fine. The jury is still out on the second one.
So the idea is, set it up now (Don't do tomorrow what you can do today) and remove it next year in April if you see evidences of roots; later if needed.

Do you water the AL after setting it up? What medium do you use?
