Air layering limits? Which trees should I avoid?

So my air layers od figs have been very succesful to date and I'm encouraged to try it on other plants: persimmon, quince, jujube, etc.

So my question is this: are there any fruiting plants or trees that don't take to airlayering well? I've heard that pawpaw fails, but what about other trees? I don't want to bother if I'm guaranteed to fail.

As I understand it, many things that do not root from cuttings do not air-layer either. Also not all plants that have desirable fruit grow well on their won roots, rather, they do better on some other rootstock, because of soil conditions, soil born diseases. That is a lot of the reason for grafting, beyond the usefulness of asexual reproduction of plants.

See CRFG Fruit Facts for some ideas.

That's a good resource, thanks!

I have a few extra branches and a few root suckers I'd like to try layering off to experiment and see if anything happens.
