Airlayering question

I started several airlayers yesterday on Sals C and MSB vs.  What is the rule of thumb on figs on those branches?  Let them stay an ripen or take them off?  Will it help root formation if I remove?

Gregg,

The most successful and fastest air layers are those on fast growing branches. Figs will divert energy from root formation and tip growth, so yes, I would deep six the figs.

I always try and choose a branch with actively growing tips and without figs.

Thanks Frank,

will do tonight when I get home.

I might try one on my Salvatski pomegranite as well

Oddball perhaps here but when i airlayer if branch has figs on it i leave them .

Last season airlayered top of my JT in 1 gallon pot and left about half a dozen figs on it .
As a note i do not score the airlayer never have and they root just fine.

Do they take longer ? Perhaps but being retired i have nothing but time. ; )

Thanks for the viewpoint

The fruit is taking resources. If you remove the air-layer before the fruit ripens, it will be competing for the energy from a limited rootball. Do what is best for the air-layer, and worry about figs next season. Same issues as keeping figs on cuttings while they are rooting.
