AL fig hunt

Any fellow Alabamians having the luck I am when trying to locate local figs for propagating. Here in central AL it's Brown Turkey and more Brown Turkey. Some are possibly mislabeled Celeste for sure but there doesn't seem to be too much variety. Plenty of willing folks that would let me take cuttings, though. But 9 out of 10 do not know just how many varieties could flourish down here. Any other suggestions than just hiitng the dirt roads and riding?

11h30 drive down the road, you'll be in Florida :) or you can shop online - EncantoFarms Nursery for instance .
Or you can try at your local nurseries in May - here at least, it is when they get their new batches of trees - and sometimes you can find a funny labeled tree - This year, I had my hands upon a "Green Jerusalem" figtree.
Sometimes you can be lucky.
This year I almost had my hands on a Brunswick - but it was in August, and the little tree had suffered from being in a 1 liter pot too long - The leaves were not good looking / FMV look iwhc could be due to poor watering, but ... No Risk !.
My plan is to go back this year to that nursery to check what they have.
And hopefully not to buy the tree, because for now I have to already let mine show what they can do - but in two years, if one of mine calls for replacement ...
For the trip, I know someone that sometimes goes to the Mediterranean coast - 10 hours trip for us as well - and I already began speaking to him about a visit he might have to do for me at some local nurseries :) .

No luck here...same experience as you.

If you guys are in central AL, go visit Petal from the Past. They have one of the largest nurseries I've ever seen and lots of figs. Located in Jamison. Ones of the workers there....his name is Blake too.

Snaglpus., it's definitely on my list of tours for Spring! I'm very excited to finally see it.

I just missed their seminar that was given on blueberries, raspberries, and scuppernongs.  They have several scheduled for Saturdays throughout the rest of the spring.  I'm in the northern part of AL along the Tennessee River and travel back and forth to Montgomery quite a bit.  I will post if I find a large selection being offered somewhere this spring.
