We've had a lot of rain lately in Albuquerque. This fig will not split beyond a star that forms at the ostiole. This fig will not sour. It is the most reliable fig variety that I grow. Consistently every year, it is the most productive in my collection. I have never seen any insects, like ants capable of entering into the cavity of this fig.

Hi Leon,
Looks great!
Are your plants in-ground?  If so, do you have to protect them over the winter in ABQ?

I have both in ground and potted Aldo's trees. I protect my potted figs in a heated shed. I have wrapped my in ground trees but this winter was very mild so they really did not need the protection.

That is a beautiful looking fig and tree colours.
Is this fig in anyway related to Red Sicilian and does it have a breba crop as well?

Leon,

That fig looks wonderful.

It is my understanding that it is synonymous with Red Sicilian. Aldo's fig originates from Palermo, Sicily. Yes it produces huge breba figs and both the brebas and the main figs have the same flavor and consistency. I will try to find photos of one of the breba figs to show you.

Here are photos of the first of the Aldo's breba figs picked on July 6, 2014. Aldo's breba 1.jpg  Aldo's breba 2.jpg  Aldo's breba 3.jpg  Aldo's breba 4.jpg  Aldo's breba 5.jpg

My Palermo Red has not produced a breba crop, but it is young. The main crop is excellent and a beautiful fig. It has been said that it may be the same as Sal C. but I have both tree planted next to each other and although it does resemble the Sal it has different growing characteristics and production time. I also have notice, in my zone it has never split like the Sal does at times, Thanks Leon!

Looks very nice.
