Alma, anyone?

Is any one growing Alma and getting a decent crop?

Terrible

I know George M,does.
I had 2 trees 5 yrs ago,and discarded one and gave one to George.
He told me last year it was loaded with figs.
Soooo,he made me another rooted cutting from it and now I grow it again.
For me it was growing fast, large ,but do not put out any embryos,or only a couple a year.
Best Regards

Just went out to have a look at my Alma.
Zero (nada) figs this year! What happened?
When it produces, my Alma is one of my best tasting figs.

Dan,

I fertilize just before bud break in the Spring with 16-16-16 plus minor minerals (Citrus and Avocado). I never see more than 2-3 figs in a season. They are good, but few and far between. It is not a large tree, only a small bush, but in-ground for 3-4 years now. Most any other tree of that age has long ago fruited well.

Just wondered if it ever produced anywhere, or if I was chasing a dream of seeing more than a couple fruit on it.

Jon,

My Alma has been a very good fig for over 20 years. It thrives in this hot an humid weather. Most years produces a good crop; this year being an exception as it was damaged very heavy by the tornado and I had to remove a lot of wood. However, it has come back very nice and will be ready for next season.

Jack - good to note you are back posting. Hope everything is coming along as per your plans.

Last year Alma produced some of my best tasting figs. This year 2 trees have lots of unripe fruit. The cutting I started this year had 8 figs. Two ripened. The first was good but not up to par. The second was awful and not edible. Today I pulled off 2 rotten ones. I just moved it into the house for the night because it is so cold outside. Just too cold and wet here in CT for Alma this year.

Al Lerner had several Alma trees but I do not recall if they were fruiting. You might want to ask him how it is doing for him.
