--- Alma Main from eBay (PIX)

Hi all,

Last year Tami was very enthusiastic about a guy on eBay selling inexpensive Alma trees. A number of us bought them, I got 2.

Here is my harvest from those nice Almas. They grow well and produce a decent crop, in 7 gal pots, caprified.

About the taste.
As some other members here, I cannot easily describe it, so please forgive my comparison :)

The fig is juicy, no crunch, thin skin, closed eye. Since Alma is a hybrid, no FMV is present. The taste is a slight strawberry but not like the Strawberry Verte or King.
It is much sweeter with less flavor. My approximation would be like the cheapest strawberry jam you can buy a regular grocery store, the one that you wouldn’t remember how it tasted except the sugar.
i.e. this fig is very good in all respects but not a super special. For me it is a keeper because it is healthy, looks very good and produces nice figs without much fuss.

Enjoy the photos!

Good looking fig. I like the skin colour

Nice hands.  I have some chores that can help with that. :)

Actually, Alma is on my wish list. Can't wait to find to purchase one somewhere. Thanks for sharing.

Otmani, I received an Alma Plant last year from an EBay listing, very inexpensive, maybe 18 inches for $4. It has figs on it now, otherwise I would snip a few cuttings. If you decide to wait, remind me in a couple months and I will send some to you, no cost. Alma is very available if you can not wait.

Thanks Wayne. That's very kind of you to offer. Wow, that's a very low price you paid. Wish I had run across that auction.
Sure, if I don't find one between now and then, I will, definitely, remind you.

Otmani,
Everyone paid that price, myself included for the Alma in this thread.
The guy had several varieties at that price.

Lucky you. There are so many varieties you can find in either local nurseries or eBay, but for reason, Alma is not one of them.

Greenfig,
Thanks for sharing the fig pictures and info.
My Alma that was purchased from that Ebay vendor was winter killed, but another plant, Alma PP is regrowing from its roots. Hopefully I'll be able to harvest figs again next year.

Otmani,
Petals from the past stocks Alma and several other cultivars... http://petalsfromthepast.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=31_38
AlmaPP_8-10-14.jpg .
Their Website pictures are not always correct, the picture with the Alma looks to be a Celeste and a California Brown Turkey is pictured with their (English) Brown Turkey selection. They sell healthy, well rooted 1 gallon trees that have produced figs in their 1st season in my location. I've purchased all of their available cultivars including those that are not currently listed, Champagne and LSU Black (Scotts Black).

<edit>
You're welcome.
A minimum shipping charge is applied just like most Web nurseries, Like Edible Landscaping and Just Fruits and Exotics. The fixed cost covers shipping of 3 - 4 one gallon plants. Good Luck.

Thanks Pete. Just placed an order from them. Per the website, their shipping season starts September 1st. Plant was $9.00, but shipping is $15.90.

Greenfig: Very nice fig, thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Thanks, Tam!

Otmani,
I have a few Alma winter cuttings in a fridge. They still look viable to me.
If you want them for $6 shipping, PM me.

Thanks Bro. PM sent.

Looks really nice Igor. I have rooted "one of the Alma girls" courtesy of FMD (thanks Frank) this year and she is looking mighty fine. There are a ton of figs coming up and hopefully I will get a bunch to try.

Coop,

Congratulation! Very good looking Alma!
My Alma fruit lost its shiny look because of the caprification in the early days.
