what a handsome baby :)

Aw, thanks guys. I kind of think all newborns are kind of blah looking until they hit a year give or take. They're still adorable and steal out hearts, awaken every protective instinct but beautiful? Nope.

I just picked up three, I'm glad he's still got some!

Mine have really come on strong. Not a leaf on either on June 10th. Here they are today.

My tree just started to wake up. I'm setup a indoor grow system so it survives through the winter.

I purchased two of the bare root Alma figs based on comments I had seen on the forum and was not disappointed. I received large well rooted plants which I soaked briefly and promptly potted up and put outside.  There were very few broken roots to trim.

They are already putting out new growth and seem happy as ducks in water.  Considering that we have received 18" of rain in the past 10 days and it looks like another week of an inch or two a day heading our way, I have been keeping them mostly under shelter rather than putting them in the nursery and risking root rot.   Felt sort of bad for the seller because my husband did the review of the purchase and sort of said, well they were what we ordered, they arrived and they were alive. Felt the seller deserved a better write up than that so I sent in some revised comments. Hopefully he knows now that the quality of his plants was recognized and that his plants did not end up in the home of totally unappreciative fig heathens.

I have had them almost a week and if anyone is interested, will be glad to post a picture of what they look like now. Cute little shiny leaves sprouting everywhere.

Marianna, I would love to see pictures! My Almas just arrived today. I loosened the roots as best I could, should I have soaked them before potting?

Tamar, where are you located.

I poured 1/4 tsp to 1 gal water over mine before planting.

Just noticed that I really had to look close to find a
symptom of FMV on my Two Alma' trees

Mike, I'm on the northeast side of town, ITP. This will be my first time growing a real cutting (rooted or otherwise), so I'm looking forward to seeing if it does as well as yours has over a month.

Tamar,
I don't think you hurt them by not soaking them. As long as you watered them in after planting, they'll be fine. One of the 2 I ordered came with a sucker with roots so I tore it off and put it in a different pot, got another one for free.
I think the 2 will probably get cut in half next year one has 4 main branches and the other has 2. This seems to be a big one for throwing suckers.

I received a couple of these about 10 days ago. Soaked the roots and potted up in 5 gallon pots.

So...should these bare little 18" trees be put in the full sun with all my other fig trees? Or in the shade? Or somewhere else? Days here have been in the low to mid 80's.

How long do they take to come out of dormancy? How were they kept in dormancy 'til now?

Questions, questions.

If no leaves are out, put it in the sun and it will be fine.

Thanks, Tami. By the way, I did tell the seller that javajunkie sent me. I don't know if he selected the best available trees at the time, but there was a little "F4F" written on the side of the box.

I'm sure he did, he's a really nice guy.

Tami,
I didn't know they made Persian cats without hair. And those ears look just like fingers.
You should get a few free trees from this seller as he's sold an entire boatload of Almas.

Michael, I started the thread. I did get some from him.

I love watching my Almas grow! They arrived a week and a half ago, and I swear that every few hours I go outside I can see new leaves forming. Right now I'm keeping them in the shade on my front porch. At what point should I start putting them in the sun?

Wow, good on ya. Mine arrived a week and a half ago and they have no signs of life at all.

Got 2 about 3weeks ago ....they both have nice growth on them ..can't go wrong for the price...

I soaked my tree in a mixture of bone meal, blood meal, worm castings, and fertilome root stimulator for two days. The roots Exploded with growth. I was totally unprepared when I brushed back the top layer of soil. Roots everywhere!!!

I got my two in today. Very large root mass and nice size cuttings. Loosened the rootball and potted up into a 7 gallon pot. A good amount of swollen buds that should leaf out very soon.

Tamar, if it was dormant you should have put it in the sun immediately.
