Almost ready

to get my first taste of this year’s crop. It's not a prize winner but I believe in another two days it should be ready to pick.

It's a Black Jack. I think all the rain we have been getting might have something to do with its color. I know the vegetation on some of my trees look like they’re not having a good time. I've seen better years.

Good for you Lou, that's a nice size. I also have one breba that is about to be picked off of my Weeping Black fig.

Lou,

Keep us posted on that fig!

I have a new Blk Jack but it has not put out any figs yet(it is just one year old)

Why do they just have one breba each this year? I have a two year old Black Jack with just one breba. It is fat but still green and hard and I don't expect it to ripen fast based on its hardness (unless it surprises me soon which I would not mind).

Some varieties can technically make brebas, but they are not really "breba crop" figs.  My Vista had about 4-5 this year, which is about normal. But there will be hundreds of main crop figs. So, is it a bifrere or two-crop fig? Not really, though technically it makes both crops. Just seems to be the way it is with some/many varieties.

I am only doing this to honor Cecils request.
I just lightly touched the fig in the attached photo just now and it came off in my hand. I wanted to wait one more day.
The photo explains my findings.

Lou:Is not that is bad tasting,it is that in your climate it doesn't have the right condition to be good.
I bet it will be good and flavorful in Texas!

Thanks Lou and Herman!

We will see about it here!

I'm not saying that I am writing this variety off. I ate fruits from that same tree last season and they where good. I would say this particular fig was affected by weather conditions in my zone 5 area this spring.

Just because mine was bad does not mean in any way that yours will turn out the same. Hang on and be patient. I'm sure it will pay off.

I'm with ya Lou,
