Alsace France figs

Hi everyone,

I'm visiting family in the town of Haguenau, France. I didn't expect to see many fig trees here since the latitude is on par with Ontario. However, the usda zones Herr are strange and is actually Claudine as zone 7.

Anyway, I went biking around the neighborhood where I'm staying abs found it difficult to NOT find another fig tree every couple of blocks. I probably covered about a 10 block area and stored about 2 dozen trees (I lost count).

I took some pictures, but i'm not sure if I can post them directly from my phone. If not, I'll add then tomorrow from a pc.

All the trees I saw wwee in ground. I have no idea what any of then are. At least one looks like a caprifig. Perhaps they have the wasp here.

I'll continue to shoot around and take more pictures. If I see anyone out in the yards, I'll try to get info, but I don't speak French....

Ps. Can't seem to iPad with my phone. Will at then later. .

Anyone on here from Hauenau?

Spent one summer in the Grenoble area many many years ago, did some camping and light mountain climbing. It's about five to six hours south.
Too bad, those figs won't be ripe before late summer. Not sure if the wasp could survive in that area. Perhaps someone could chime in.

What a treat to find so many fig trees on your bike ride!!! Look forward to pictures when u can upload them.

It sounds like a great vacation.  Do you see any brebas ripening?  Where is jdsfrance when you need him?  Maybe he will chime in.  Post pics when you can.

Hi,
At the time of the first post ... I was sleeping .
You're not too far away from me - 30 km north.
We don't have the wasp here.
Sometimes local people go on vacation and bring back some cuttings from the South of France... not knowing that late ripening strains and smyrna types have no chance of fruiting reliably here (I did too ... LOL ). So they get a shade tree ...
Normally the trees you'll see are BT (local people) and Healthy longue d'aout ( well spread around middle east and north African people). That's what I spot here around .
You'll then spot anything someone tried :) .
