Am I missing something?

So I picked up some figs from the local market, and quite frankly they taste like crap. Maybe after a 12pack I could convince myself they are good. Am I missing something here? This is my first season growing figs and they taste nothing like the dried figs I have had. Any advise?

can't get to the link... but you are not missing anything. local markets are getting figs that are not fully ripen. therefore they taste like crap. that's one of the many reasons why members grow their own figs. figs have to be ripen fully on the tree and since it's hard to transport the market fully ripen, they sent unripe figs and they all taste like crap.

Mike, nothing  at the link. I would never buy another fresh fig from any of my local grocery stores unless the figs were grown in
my area and they are ripe and I can see and touch them.

You missed nothing as the best of the best are in your yard freshly picked.

Ditto to what Martin said.

I laugh when I see them at the stores.

Well, it was a $1.99 lesson learned. Thanks for the help, and now to go check my figs trees for signs of ripening.
