My fig shuffling days may be coming to a close soon. My wife and I found a property that may allow us to finally realize our homesteading dream and put (almost) everything currently in pots into the ground.
It's 1.3 acres of good farmland with rich, dark soil. It is still realtively close to the NC coast, so we will continue to enjoy our great climate. If we get it (and I think we will, barring any issues with appraisals and inspections), there will be plenty of room for figs, pomegranates, grapes, berries, nut trees, and lots of herbs and vegetables. The 5-year plan also includes chickens, ducks, a few goats and maybe even a pig or two. The land is a piece of a much-larger former farm and is a big, blank slate, just waiting to be filled. A lot of work is ahead but it is very exciting.
P.S. - The new venture will include fighting off deer, rabbits and possibly wild hogs, but my wife has already agreed to lots of fencing, a crossbow and a big freezer.
