An Old Man's Advice

When i was a kid in Greece, i been told by a lot of old farmers
to never sleep under of a fig tree's shade, because the sleep could be very very
deep, some people told me stories that some never woke up from there sleep,
I did a little research a while ago to find out if this was true or
it was just a mythology, and indeed the fig tree releases some chemical
( i forgot the name of it) that relaxes you, hmmmm could this be true then?

Does anyone had heard this story before or know anything about it?

If that's the case, wouldn't it be bad having a fig tree in the house?

PS. Sorry for my bad English, im Greek OTB

Hey F4L your not an old man your just older wiser and more experienced.
Yawn...I got my fig tree next to my bed so I think its time for a nap :)

I have some fig trees growing by a hammock. Good choice!

I think it's called "food coma". After one too many good figs, sleep come naturally. With warm weather, shade under the tree, and full stomach, what could be better than a nice long nap?

LoL

Have one on each side of our 3 seat swing and many times i fall asleep on it in the summer after watering the figs and sitting back then laying back then laying down then closing of the eyes .
Always wake up though eventually especially when one of the dogs decides to jump up on it .

I have 1000+ fig trees in my sunroom. I keep the door open for the moisture to get into my house. I don't feel anything different.

Jimmy, I'd love to see that sunroom filled with fig trees attached to your house. Any chance of showing some pictures?

Curious,
if I can ask,
what you going to do with a 1000 cuttings ?

Starting a fig orchard ?

Yes patrioti

I think I'll stuff my pillow with fig leaves. Always looking for a deep sleep.

Really?

Back in Croatia where I am originally from, my grandmother use to say that about walnut trees...

first thing I thought about was someone eating some figs, falling asleep under the tree and anaphylaxis... I still think you would wake up from the difficulty breathing and all the itching.

My first advice to grow cuttings came from an old Greek online.  His advice was the best I ever got, and it works the best, but I live in a climate similar to Greece.

It's very strange, but touching the fig leaves leaves me itching.  Actually most leaves and dirt!  Which is why I wear long sleeves and elbow length gloves when gardening!  Allergies, I guess!

We should have some large trees at the new property, and a hammock sounds very restful........... hmmmmmmmmmm  I don't itch when I breathe, just when I touch!  I can touch those wine grape leaves all day every day with no protection, and no itching.  Maybe it's all in the mind?

If anyone wants to go on vacation, Sedona has a great place called the Canyon Wren.   They have a nice fig tree with a hammock underneath where you can eat figs and fall asleep underneath the hammock.

Scot, I didn't see you reply till now. here you go. My camera can't take the a picture to fit entire room. Besides, If I take picture at daytime, the background is too bright. But the picture at night doesn't look good either. I'll try video tomorrow.
