I transplanted it to a smaller pot.
It was way over potted.
The bottom half was soil.
Even now, the bottom third is soil.
Why do they do that?

I like clay because it pulls out any
extra water, incase it's over watered.

I see that you are using the aqua globe...has that worked well?  I was a little scared to try it for fear of it rotting the roots.

They do that because they can charge more for trees in lager pots. It's pretty common for nurseries to up the size of the pot just before they sell the plants.

How long will it be until you can get that tree outside? The growth is very lanky because it is not getting enough light. Staking the branches will make it worse.

I stopped using the aqua globe for now.
Too much water was released.
I will try it again when I put it outside and more water
evaporates from the soil.

I'm going to put it outside for a few hours later in the afternoon when the sun is in the back.
Probably at the end of April it maybe safe to leave outside during the day
but would have to bring in at night.
Last year we had a snow storm on April 22nd, about three inches.
The only reason I staked it was to keep it from getting top heavy
and breaking and to keep them growing straight up.
