Ancient fig trees of Hai Phong, Vietnam

Pouteria campechiana ?

Does the fruit have big seeds?
It looks somewhat like a loquat (i.e. nespole in Italian).

Here's another link: http://english.vietnamnet.vn/fms/vietnam-in-photos/98541/community-of-vietnam-s-oldest-trees-recognized-as-national-heritage.html

It does look very similar to Pouteria but has what appears to be a very small ostiole.

fig trees, do son, heritage trees

Pino I am assuming the seeds are small and edible.

Hi,
Are they all the same fruit ?
Last pic, and first pic -look at the leaflets on the fruit-, it looks to me like a kaki . a yellow kaki ?

"Quả thị", "Gold Apple", or Diospyros decandra.

I'm just using google translate to read it, to be honest.

You were very close jds, it seems there was a translation problem on the part of the authors. Others reports around the same time name the trees as Diospyros decandra. Thanks.

I know this tree .
THIS IS NOT A FIG TREE !
This is not related to fig at all
The fruits are edible and big as a golf ball usually. Sometimes some are as big as an apple   . They do smell good but not tasty at all if not Yuck ! . Nobody want to eat them because the seeds are big and not edible  .More for kids to play and for decoration
There is a fairy story about it
I do not want to have it in my garden because people said that the smell draw bad spirits .
In my country (Viet Nam ) there are 3 kinds of figs
- One is a religious fig producing small fruits that are not edible . Look like a big seed (Cay Bo De)
- Big fig tree with lots of tiny fruits around the branches (Cay Sung) . Mostly for birds not for us to eat
- Another variety grown mostly in Center Vietnam. (Cay Va). Fruits are flat . People dont eat them ripe (I  never see a ripe one in my life) but blanch them when they are still green to make a salad dish with shrimp + pork + peanut + dressing
I was born in Hue City (old capital )

Viet Nam has no Ficus Carica, until lately imported from the US .
They call TRAI SUNG MY (American fig) does not matter if the variety comes from Spain, Greece, France , Turkey or wherever .

Great job Levar you beat me at the buzzer!

Thank you for sharing your experience Mai.
