Angelos Dark vs Black Zadar

Thoughts?

Hi Donna.
Two completely different figs.
Angelo's Dark is a Mount Etna fig (like Hardy Chicago).
Black Sadar has an unusual flavor.
Vito

Unusual in what way Vito?

Aaron. It doesn't taste like a honey fig or berry fig,
it's hard to describe.

Vito

My Black Zadar has an almost "dense" taste.  To me the opposite of watery.

OK I now have ONE Black Zadar all swollen up and almost ready. Hope the squirrel doesn't get it! Thanks again Vito!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on your Black Zadar Donna. I love figs with unusual flavors.

Hi Donna.
Angelo's dark is much more productive.
Enjoy both.
Vito

Donna, please post some photos of your Black Zadar, inside and out. Thank you.

Hi Leon, I will do if it's still there. I took some "Pixies" 2 days ago and tried to post them but my phone is out of memory so it didn't work. I hope I will get to try it.

Vito, I somehow killed my Angelo's Dark. I think it was because I let it go dormant in a Gro-bag. It's a Mt. Etna type isn't it?

Is it a must-have? Other Mt. Etnas I already have: Sals EL, Ginos, Macool (?). Probably more but I forget.

Vito, the real workhorse in my garden seems to be the VdB. It formed maybe 30 figs early in the summer, then ripened a few back in August. After that, ripening stopped, all the little figs were staying hard.  I asked Barry about it. He said I needed to water it more. He was right. They are now ripening again about two at a time. What a great fig it is. This is a second year tree, in a 5 gal container but still, a smallish tree for so much fig production.

Angelos Dark is very similar to my Sals G.

Nick, Excuse me for asking but what is Sal's G? Did you mean to write "Sal's C"?

Sals Gene's strain?

Same as Sal's EL I think

Bingo!

I picked the Black Zadar this morning. It was good.

I would like to think that this first fruit (from a new tree grown from a last-years stick) is just a promise of the many great figs to come next year and beyond. I'm an optimist!

This is a very different looking and tasting fig than anything else I have tried even from Barry's collection.

One of the Black Madeiras split. Also I heard mockingbirds this morning. I will be surprised if that fig is not gone or pecked by the end of the day.

Cheers!

photos? PhOtOs? PHOTOS???

Wow, that's reminds me of a chubby little pumpkin. Thanks for posting the pic.

Nice looking fig Donna. Any more you can say about sweetness and flavor profile?

Check out that stem. It does look like a pumpkin!

Nice looking fig. Gives me something to look forward to. :)

How's the taste, Donna?

I wonder why it is call Blk Zadar. Any idea ?
