Announcing the Figs 4 Fun Foundation

Jon,
Did you ever think about trying to raise money through kickstarter.com? Its a little bit expensive but they have a fairly large member base?

Have you thought about how you can accept donations from forum members? I think Paypal and Squareup.com(much cheaper than paypal) offer discounts for 501c3 companies.

Thanks for all your hard work!
Cheers,

John

great! Thanks

John, Those are good ideas. Paypal was on the radar, but  not the others.

We have e-mail at info@figs4fun.org

Congrats on the new email!

John

I don't know if this is even feasible, but could members sign up for a custom email address? For a small donation, a member could get their own @figs4fun.org email address.

John

Interesting idea.

Jon can you introduce board of directors to as.

Thank You and Update

Figs 4 Fun Foundation

An update is probably overdue.

But first, we want to say thank you to those people who have pioneered creative ways to help raise $$ for this endeavor.

Rafed has proven to be more than just a Road Warrior. He has been a $$ warrior. He was the first member to step up and both share with other members of the Forum and at the same time raise some $$, and he has done it more than once. James followed Rafed's example. Eden, Kerry and Chad graciously purchased the offered auction items. George seems to have started a gift matching program, all on his own. Thanks to every one of these friends and fig lovers.

As for an update, we had our initial Board Meeting in late September, and have completed the process of legally beginning the non-profit corporation. The Board is engaged in the final review of our IRS Form 1023 Application for Tax-Exempt Status, and hope to have it in the mail by the end of the month.

We have done some initial research on grant funding. This is not a slam-dunk process in any way. Applying for a grant requires a lot of research and paperwork. We would love to hear from people who have experience at this aspect of fundraising.

We are keeping our eyes open for property. The first parcel that we are looking at is 34 vacant acres underneath the KOGO (Clear Channel) radio towers in the Emerald Hills community of the City of San Diego. See  http://www.fybush.com/sites/2009/site-090327.html and http://www.sandiegoreader.com/photos/galleries/emerald-hills/3203/  Who knows if this will go anywhere, but it certainly meets our needs, if they are willing to share it with us.

To johnf93: we looked at your idea of selling e-mail addresses linked to the Foundation. Technically it is easy, but the legal and liability ramifications of people appearing to be a part of the foundation appear to be insurmountable.

Thanx to all for their interest and support.

Jon thank you for emailing me about this site. signed up just yesterday and feel right at home. found your email by a fluke. any how i dont have many figs but what i have i am willing to share. and am as many have been overtaken by the addiction of wanting to add as many kinds that will grow in my area for my collection. as said it is these privite collections brought together that will help keep strains alive and available. i think the work you are doing is wonderful, and am glad that i myself have an opertunaty to help no matter how small or large. my only regret is that i didnt stumble upon you email sooner.

best regards and keep up the good work.

Dave

just a newbie to this site...keep up the good work

wish list...rdb,
Col De Dame Grise & Noir, Grise de St Jean, Black Madeira,

Hey Deerhunter RX8 16B???

please keep me informed of new exceptional varieties.
would like to know if possible to get access on cuttings for long
period cultivars in my zone-northeast mediterranean.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you!

i see suzi already suggested membership. i think that's a good idea. $20 for a year of membership, $50 for 3 years, $80 for 5 yr. and $1000 for lifetime or something like that. but that will have to come with some membership benefit. like sticker... patch.. cuttings. and keeping track of all that might be headache unless there is better forum software to keep track of all. oh.. and membership number. i want 007.. lol

We had the annual Board Meeting this week. There is not a lot to report. We are waiting on the receipt of our "Determination Letter" from the IRS. After we have that in hand, there are many things that we can move forward with: seeking grants, Paypal service, and the like.

We are working on some projects to increase the number of varieties in the collection. If we are successful in working out the details, there will be some very exciting new things in the future. If you have varieties which are not currently in the collection and wish to donate them, please send us an email to info at figs4fun dot org.

And, of course $$ is always welcome.

Oh, them dreaded IRS!
They expect prompt $$$ payment from us.
Meanwhile, they are slooower than a snail...
Down with BIG governments.

Paypal added.

So you got your letter?

I wish. It turns out that they gave me some bad info. Long story about how I found out about the truth. Anyway, the good news is that it is now available.

I just finished a multi- month process setting up a non profit inc for an antique tractor club, with both state and IRS approval, so if you need any help let me know.

Jon,
How come this thread keeps showing itself to me as 'un-read'
