another heavy freeze

I uncovered my three inground trees a week ago. It was warm and there was some mold forming on the bark from the wet leaves against them

Now, agh, we are having another ice storm. It will drop to 17F tonight and the next! I wish I had left those trees covered another couple weeks. Oh well, we will see how bad the cold gets them

Sending fig wishes your way!  Sorry about this.

I get caught like that every year.  I probably will never learn.
The old timers have told me repeatedly (with a slight smirk) never uncover the figs until chance of frost has passed and the ground has warmed up enough to plant your tomatoes.
Simple enough advise.  But when the sun is beating on those covered figs and you know they are starting to break bud and the mold is growing then chance of frost or not I uncover them and promise myself that this year I will be ready to cover them back if required.

The problem is that cold spells come very fast and I never seem to have time to cover them.  The figs hardy as they are always recover anyway maybe a little set back and few brebas short.

put incandescent Christmas lights in the trees, cover them with a blanket and cover that with plastic or a tarp.  That's your best hope of saving them.

i was all ready to take my trees outside and up pot, then notice the temp drop this week. i guess it will just have to wait till next week.
