Well, I thought I should post my first home grown fig experience, not that it was a great fig, but a little unusual.
Last November a generous forum member gave me an air layer unknown green fig that he really enjoyed. It was growing on his deck, I think, and had not lost it's leaves yet. I got a few other plants at about the same time that had already lost or were losing their leaves. I decided to see how long this plant would go indoors before going dormant. It never did. I kept it in a South facing window all winter, and it slowly started a few new leaves in spurts. The old leaves gradually got pretty rusted and fell off after a few months, and in February it started growing a little fig. After the fig got to just over 1/2 inch diameter, it quit growing. The plant gradually got a little larger, and just before starting the fig shuffle with it this late spring I up-potted. The little fig finally started growing about two weeks ago until suddenly swelling a lot, becoming very soft and a little yellow a few days ago. It looked like the end was starting to split a bit around the eye, so I picked it and ate it. Half to my wife. It was at least a full 4 months since I saw it first in Feb. The fig technically was growing (this season) on brown wood, but not sure if I should consider it a breba or a very very late main crop.
The first pic is from a week before picking it, the last two were on the morning of harvest. Sorry for the blurred iPhone pics.
.
Of course I have been on the forum long enough to know the usual poses for posting fig pictures:

Unfortunately I dont have a lot of experience in posting taste of fresh figs. The interior was extremely moist, almost watery. It had only a mild sweetness, and a hint of the flavor of a slightly unripe honeydew melon. I suspect the large amount of rainfall the past 6-8 weeks had had an effect. No idea if it was unripe, though it did not look or feel like it. Looking forward to trying more, but there are not any others growing on it. Yet.
I have a few main crop figs coming this year. The first is a 2 year old Pied de Boeuf with 3 little figs - they have about doubled in size since I took the pic last week:
The is a single fig on my Dominick's fig grown from a cutting started in Jan. Only going to leave this one on it:
Third is on Unk. Abington also started in Jan:
The last (no pic) is a single fig on a 2 yr old unknown (lost tag) gifted plant described as 'possibly Celeste'.
If any of my other new starts put on figs I will knock them off early, but I just wanted to see what would happen with these. With a little luck they will hang on thru the season and turn out OK! Thanks for viewing, hope you were not too put off by my sub-par photography.
