Another Novice Question

About a month or so ago I received my first fig plants. All three are doing very well as far as new growth goes. But one of these plants(a Celeste) has actually  started setting fruit. These plants are still very small-about 18" or so. Should I pinch these fruit off to keep all the trees energy going toward new growth? Another question I have is about the number of stems that is best. My Hardy Chicago has sprouted 2 new trunks, one of which is about a foot tall (growing very fast ). The original trunk shows good signs of new growth, but these two new trunks are the vast majority of new growth on this plant. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

I would remove the fruit. If it is just setting, it is not going to ripen in time. Put the energy into vegetative growth.  If you want a tree, keep only one stem/branch. If you want a bush form, branching low is good. More compact plants are more easy to manage for winter protection or storage, and the fruit is easier to get to.

I have a Sals Corleone that is doing the same thing I am trying to air layer one of them off the main tree and the other will be used for cutting propagation of the cultivar. I am also removing new fruits sending energy back into the wood to harden off for winter protection. If your tree has alot of green wood pinch out the leading branch tips stunting the growth but hardening off the existing wood.
