Yeah, I must pass that tree 4/5 times a week on the way to Shop Rite. I was saddened when I passed by this morning. I looked around didn't see any wood.

Oh, how very sad!

Suzi

maybe aliens beamed it up?  (i'm hoping!)

sigh... ok, someone start singing "we are the champions"...

KK, put a nasty note on the door saying "had you not removed the 200 year old tree, which looked so healthy and gorgeous, not mentioning the benefits to humans, we would never be able to see how ugly and architecturally WRONG your property is, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!".
and lets hope this letter gets viral through YouTube  :)

OMG, I am so tempted to do this... KK provide me the picture with your note on the property wall. I will start this!

I have a feeling he did this to gain access to his backyard. He has no driveway and only a narrow walkway on either side of his house. That blacktop in the foreground is the parking lot of an office building. Since he took the fence down I’m guessing he’ll be using the parking lot as a driveway into his back yard. BTW, there were 2 trees, one behind the other.

It's a Photoshop April fools

Unfortunately its real.

Its a crime to completely do away with such a tree! Maybe it needed pruned, but to wipe it out.

On a similar note, I have a friend whose insurance company scared into taking out ALL the shade trees around his house -- said they were too great a risk. These 4 big pines and one absolutely massive oak. I just don't understand people sometimes. Now his house BAKES in the long Arkansas summer sun.

Maybe he can tell you where the wood went.  Did you ever try any of the fruit?

I cut down as many trees as I could at our new over grown property dispite the neighbors complaining. I saved a couple of their houses when Sandy came thru. We didn't even loose power.
Big trees have no business being in close proximity to houses .

I'm with u on this one. I had several huge pines and scrub oaks removed to eliminate the chance of death by falling tree or branch!

Today we remember not just a fig tree but also [apparently] the generations of prisoners who sat at those barred windows gazing at the dignified ficus carica outside, contemplating their wrongdoings, and lusting after figs just out of reach.

"So long and thanks for all the fish
emulsion."

Hi,
It was a dark fig and the guy got fed up eating them !
He will start a light colored fig from a cutting :) .

Seriously, the question is more: were those trees productive ?
if not, we all have already done that !
He was just lazy and waited a bit longer than the gallon stage ...

For big trees, I do agree, they are a threat as well . They should be kept under control for safety reasons.
But everyone is free to do has they like !

It was a dark fig, I did try a few couple years ago but they weren't fully ripe so hard to say how good they were.

It was very productive, the birds loved it. I think it was a spur of the moment decision because last fall he pruned 4-5 feet off all branches.

It'll probably be back in a year or three.

I think Costas has something to do with all this. I think he air-layered it and shipped it to London.

Few years back i saw that tree posted on 1 of the forums but forgot the story behind it but did
see the pictures of it in past .
It's to bad but life marches on.
