Another question about FMV

I am curious if anyone on this list has ever planted a fig mosaic virus-infected tree near some that never had the disease, only to have the virus infect your trees.  That's why I'm concerned that I might introduce the virus to my area if I buy some varieties that carry the virus.

More than likely any tree you have has the virus, even if it shows no symptoms. Any tree you purchase from any nursery source will be similarly infected. I have gotten trees from virtually every nursery in the US that sells fig trees, and they all have FMV. That is the reality. Ag inspectors don't even care about it because it is considered ubiquitous and not an issue. If it is an issue for you, keep tree you have and do not acquire any more.

Thank you.  I shouldn't worry about it then.  It's not like the blight that wiped out the American chestnut trees years ago.  In fact, the mite that serves as a vector for FMV may not exist here.  I'm thinking about purchasing a VDB and a Green Ischia.
