Another Question on Starting Cuttings

Somewhere in my studies on taking and starting fig cuttings I found a proposal that not only should the cuttings be taken from as near the base of the shoot as possible, but that wherever it was convenient the cutting should include a small piece of the previous season's growth--in other words, a stub of two-year-old wood at the bottom of the cutting.

Has anyone any experience with this?

I have read that previously. Older wood will root. Don't know that it is required, or better.

I will have plenty of cuttings this year; I will try it both ways.  I wonder if that bottom stub of old wood simply furnishes nutrients?
