Any info on these variants??

Anyone have any information on the following fig variants like Chater Green, Canlia, Hurricane, K-7-11, Marlow, Negra, Sierra, & Yede Vern. Would like to know characteristics like productivity, sweetness, flavour, earlyness. Thanks

See Figs 4 Fun for pix. Chater Green is a great fig, though I am told there are two different ones. Have not located the supposed second one.

Sierra, if I understand correctly is from a recent breeding program at the Kearney Ag Station, Parlier, CA. Mine, via and indirect route, has not fruited, yet.

Yede Vern was good at UC Davis but has nt frited here, yet.

Have only seen Canlia at the Watts Collection.

One fig of K-7-11 last season. Doesn't stand out in my memory, but last season was very different in terms of fig flavors.

Can't speak for the rest.

Sierra was one of the figs supposed to replace the calimyrna fig in California. I have a VERY small one, I will let you know how it works!

Chater Green has been on my interest list for a while. Looks like its time to get one. Jose, keep us posted on your Sierra. Thanks.

My young Sierra produced a few excellent tasting figs two years ago. Last year, for reasons I cannot explain, the potted tree almost died. However, it has made a comeback in the ground and I'm looking forward to more figs this year. Here are some photos of one of the Sierra figs from 2007. The marble tiles in the photo are 4 inch squares. Jon, you are welcome to use these photos for your site:

I can speak for Marlow.

Pear shaped, rich but sweet, that show up in August.   Its a large brown fig with pink interior. Some of this info is from Richard Watts of California on his fig list.

Thanks for the pic's Leon. Thats a mama size fig. I am encouraged by both size & the good news of excellent taste. I hope productivity is good as the tree matures further.

Arigato - I have been debating myself on whether to try this less known one. I wish I had more space for my collection. Perhaps with more feedbacks I can create room to add this Marlow in. Thanks for posting the feedbacks.

I had received a private mail citing Chater Green as an excellent tasting fig from a top notch collector. Its definitely an addition to my collection.
