Any wild guesses?

As it turns out there is yet another fig tree on the Church grounds that hosts the white I posted before, I haven't seen the fruit but got pictures of the leaves, so I thought I'd post them and see if anyone had any guesses..

Violette de Bordeaux or Ronde de Bordeaux ??

I agree with tylerj. The leaves look very much like Violette de Bordeaux.

Gloria: Can you take more leaf photos and photos of the figs too, thanks for sharing.

Tam

It could also be Aubique Petite or Petite Negri, or even Valle Negra.  (Also Negronne/VDB, or RDB, as previously mentioned).  I'm thinking Petite Negri.

I will do a drive by in the day light but I don't think it still has figs, when my friend noticed and was picking the ripe figs that was back on 9/20... she said they were very sweet and purple...after she told me about that one I found the white and didn't go find this one till last night...

I do not think it is a VdB

It could be an unknown cousin of all the aforementioned.  Maybe a discovery?

Wild guess., if it's a dark fig... Violet de Bordeaux. You'll need pictures of figs to get a better guess.

Pete: Nice trees, but your trees are little sad because they have a little sickness. Thanks for sharing.

Pete I didn't get a chance to see the figs on the tree... I was told they are purple and very sweet...I will be by there today in the day light and try and get a better look.. I am still trying to get good information about the figs around this church but so far no one seems to know much..no one even picks the fruit, it is let to fall unless someone walking by decides to pick some.

It is amazing what you find in the day light... I'm always there at night... so this is what I found today..

If you need a wild guess, then Brown Turkey, Vasilika Sika, or ? If you need an educated guess, forget those two. ;-))

Your very funny Jon!!! I'm just trying to decide if it is worth trying to root..... the one fig I found was very different from others I've tried...sweet but not too sweet then something that hard to describe and then a soft sweet finish if that makes any sense...but that was just one fig...so not a lot to go on...

Gloria,
I think it would be worth trying to root. The fig looks like with a closed eye and a nice texture.
Do you think you could do an airlayer there? It is easier than a cutting propagation.
A great find!

Igor, unfortunately it is on the front lawn of a church I'm sure they would want me doing that... also it is on a busy street...as busy as streets here get...

were the figs good to eat?  If so then the answer is yes, its worth trying to root some cuttings

Yes it was, so I shall

I think the small eye, dark purple skin with those spots look great and the red inside is to die for...
I would love to try a fig that looked like that.. And if I could get a cutting , Well I would be in fig heaven .....
Get lots of cuttings , and then send me some.. LOL

Perhaps if you got the owner's permission....??? If the owner is the pastor of the church, you might find them more accommodating than you think.

Well I will see about cuttings but the churches around here can be a bit stuffy and this one is more known for that than most.... if I didn't have a friend that went there I doubt I would have been able to get cuttings from some of the other trees, but i don't want to make a pest of myself...

Must be RC then??? But jokin' aside, I think it's a real shame that people who profess a Christian faith can be so prickly over such trivial matters. Good manners cost nothing, and go a long way to foster a good impression of an otherwise worthy religion.

Just offer to make a donation !!!, sure that will work.

Volunteer to come do some maintenance on the tree's.   You'll trim and shape them for free....

............and remove the dead wood, not forgetting the dead wood on the tree :-).
