The fellow that runs it, Alan Cunningham, grew up there, and inherited the poroperty, along with his siblings. They have grown figs, etc there for 40ish years, I believe, selling from a roadside stand and at farmer's markets. I have visited a couple times. Alan is a somewhat unreconstructed Hippie/biker-dude whop gorws many, many things on the 2-3 acres of land that he has. Very much into organic farmins, sustainability, etc, and a quite interesting fellow. The Chico is excellent. I added the Malibu to the name because I was pretty sure there was another fig named Chico, and I did not know the parentage of the one at VZ. The China White I had not heard of except there, but many of these varieties were older, and the provenance was unknown. As I understand it Sacramento , Sierra, and maybe one other originated at Kearney Ag Center in Parlier, but have not confirmed that. He also grows Zide successfully.
