Anyone Ever Order from Ison's Nursery

Hi guys,

This post is not about figs.  There is a grapevine that I want to order from Ison's Nursery.  I don't know anything about them.  I was wondering if anyone has ever ordered from them before and could tell me how that experience was.  Thanks for your help!

They were first class to deal with. I ordered some muscadine grapes from them about 10 years ago.

hi joe

Last year i placed an order for about 8 Muscadines from Isons and they arrived in perfect condition and all grew well, putting out nice branches and leaves. I'm hoping for some grapes next fall.

My experience was mixed. I placed a phone order and spoke with a knowledgeable sales person. I was specific with my request and was told there would not be a problem. My request was that I receive tall vines that had not been top clipped as I was training them to a seven foot tall double geneva curtain trellis. I think I ordered about twelve vines.

Upon receipt I was missing two vines although none were backordered and two vines were broke at about two foot tall which would cost me half a seasons growth. I called them up and they promptly shipped me replacements. Overall most of the vines met my requirements and grew well. Triumph did not grow and eventually died in the first season of growth. I called them and they replaced them at half price which is their posted policy. The replacements also grew poorly and may not make it. Will know next season after seeing what they do. Florida Fry (not from Isons) also grew extremely poorly. I have about thirty vines total. I sourced the other vines from Just Fruits and Exotics however I drove there and picked them out personally.

Overall I am satisfied with Ison's and believe they have a better product than most other nurseries. I feel the same about JF&E. There are varieties available from both that you cannot get from the other one. I believe if I could have driven there I could have selected better vines. I am at the end of my second year of training and should have a great harvest next year.

After reading the reviews several unhappy customers. As I previously posted it's been 10 years since I ordered and many things can and do change over time.

I ordered two muscadines from then last year. They were large healthy plants for the money and have grown very well.

I have never ordered from them. But Double A has been good to me in the past, very healthy vines with a good root system.

I ordered two tree's fig trees last year. A Celeste and LSU Purple. They grew pretty well, but didn't ripen any fruit.

The Celeste put on a lot of figs but none would ripen.  They would grow a bit, then fall off.  They did that early in the season, then again later in the season.

The LSU Purple didn't put on any fruit until near the end of the season.  A couple looked like they would ripen, but never did.  I plucked the largest one after a freeze and the inside looked nearly ripe (but spoiled), but the outside was still green.  So now I have doubts that it's really LSU Purple.  I'll wait until I get fruit next year before I say for sure that it's not.

One year I bought 6 assorted fruit trees directly from their nursery. That winter was the worst and 4 trees froze. The next Spring when I went to buy replacements, they gave them to me for free.  Needless to say I highly reccomend them for this.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  After hearing positive and negative experiences about Ison's I think I will go ahead and order from them, as the positive experiences seem to outweigh the negative ones.  The grapevine I'm looking for is pretty hard to find.  It's either Ison's or Willis Orchards unless I want to order in bulk from a vineyard supplier.  So since my options are pretty limited I think I'll give Ison's a try.  Thanks so much everyone!

I've order from them many times and have been very pleased. Mostly ordered muscadine grapes, I've always received nice healthy plants nicely packed.

Thanks for the feedback. I already put in an order with Ison's for the grapevine I want. It is supposed to ship next week. I'm looking forward to receiving it.

Which one did you want?

Saijo Which ones are you growing?

I ordered a Black Spanish grapevine. The Jupiter grapevine I'm growing now is dying from Pierce's Disease. Black Spanish should do much better here. It is a wine grape, but from the research I've done it can also serve as a table grape because of it's sweetness. I'm hoping that we like it.
