Anyone growing cuttings near a wood stove?

Cellar is warm (72 - 78) and putting a table in that environment would make the
wife happy (instead of the living room!).  Anything special I ought to know about
this other than the obvious - fire; drying out........

Put a tea kettle on the stove to keep the humidity up. Wood stoves produce a very dry heat. Don't put them too close to the stove as the temps near the stove fluctuate quite a bit (depending on how much fire there is) and and be too hot and dry out or cook the cuttings.

i dont have a wood burning stove but i do heat my home with a wood pellet stove. i purchased one of those mini portable greenhouses. so far it's been working like a charm. humidity in the house is typically around the mid 40's but in the greenhouse it's up around the high 70's to mid 80's. once they outgrow the cups and get potted up to the 1 gal pots they are then placed on the window sills to fend for themselves. the further along the root system is the better they can handle the dryer enviroment. an occassional misting helps too.....

My green house is heated by a wood stove and the figs do fine as long as the cuttings have roots before they have leaves, I have a 150 cuttings started.Rex

I have mine in the same room as the woodstove (rec room) and there is no drying of the leaves. The figs are about 20 feet away from the stove and I have a hygrometer half way between them  and it is reading 48% right now. At times this winter it read 40%.

Ah the wood stove heat. I have my stove in my family room along with my wood stove. As to being to close, if you a new stove, a lot of them have built in shields to help redirect the heat for a cleaner burn. Ok back to fig and cuttings. I have my tubs close the stove and it's only 80 inside the plastic bin. This the BEST I have ever done with cuttings, I never have put them this close before. Once the have roots, I pot them up and put them on cardboard box and put the box in the clear plastic bag, again close to the stove. Twice a day I mist them inside the bag. Next, after the leaves come out, I move them to the other side of the room with a light weight clear plastic bag draped JUST over the top to keep the hot air from hitting the new leafs head on. I mist them 2-3 time a day. As I said before, I need more south windows or a new green house. (likes that going to happen with 2 kids in college and  one more to go yet)   Frank

Rooted all my cuttings right next to my wood stove(worked well), but when I put them in cups or pots, they had to go into another room...way to hot & dry in the stove room, even with a cast iron pot full of water on the griddle(still way too dry.)
