Anyone have any Fig Scions/Cuttings in London, England?

I know this is a long shot..

I have tried several ways of getting hold of fig cuttings and they keep coming to nothing. I can provide cuttings from a few other fruit trees when appropriate in return, or I will pay whatever is reasonable, I don't mind. I would just like to get hold of some selection of fig tree cuttings.

I could have taken from at least two trees - I have seen figs on them, but the owners either didn't get back to me or aren't easily contactable - I don't want to get in trouble.

That is something else - can someone please advise me on this - if I see a fig tree (which appears to be within the regular fig tree range) which has figs on it does that mean that those figs are edible?

Also, any suggestions for what to grow? I am in London England as it says, I was considering (for outdoor pot planting) Brunswick, Castle Kennedy, Bourjasotte Gris, Sultane and anything else that might survive and thrive in my county.

I have one small Brown Turkey that is yet too young and small to take cuttings from itself, and it has not yet given figs.

My friends say I am always talking about figs, but I think they are fascinating and neat trees. Most of what I know I have watched from Youtube.

Thank you for reading.

Maybe this will help in choosing a fig variety. Here are some of Baud's suggestions for growing in France:

Here's what is available at Read's Nursery:

Hi Black_River

I can't help you with the cuttings but have you considered buying from Reads Nursery in the U.K.?

They have many variants that I am sure might do well in your region.

Good luck on your quest and sorry for not being able to help.

If you acquire figs from Reads, the Violet Soleis, Black Tuscan, and White Marseilles are good eating.

Hi there,

sorry for warming this up, yet I'm kind of aiming at the same direction.
I'm in London this Sunday and was wondering if:
- Anyone willing to part from some interesting cuttings there
- Anyone is aware of trees where I could cut a few

Thanks!

There are a few UK members here and most are based in or around London and the SE so hopefully someone will see your post here and get back to you

With regards to taking cuttings from unknown trees I respect your way of thinking but the majority of people with mature fig trees in our major cities don't care about them at all.I have tried contacting a few and they just aren't interested.Because of the turnover of people in the city the person who planted it is LONG gone.Just take cuttings, don't go crazy, just a small branch is enough, honestly no one cares,I do it all the time in Birmingham,I would have a field day in London,it's full of figs

There was a topic I was trying to find for you,has a list of figs in London in it and some interesting info for London figgers
