Anyone using Mykos or Azos on Cuttings?

Has anyone experimented with Mykos or Azos on fig cuttings???

I'm thinking of using this on future fig cuttings. From what I've researched this stuff is pretty amazing. If you believe what people claim it does.

Just use pro mix it is innoculated with Mycorrhizae

Hi BLB,

Cool. Never heard of pro mix before. Is there a specific pro mix that is better for fig cuttings or as long as it has the Mycorrhizae?

The -tone fertilizers also have beneficial micro-organisms, both fungi and bacteria.  I use a combination of Citrus-Tone and Bulb-Tone.

I do use Mykos.

There are several formulas available in most garden supply centers or greenhouse supply stores. I purchased the one sold by Lowes. I'll check the bag and tell you which one it is. I do know it is a general purpose product

It's Promix BX. What I use as well.

Oh there you go. Thanks Navid!

Bob C. - Thanks for replying. I will have to check out bulb-tone and citrus-tone. Do you find they help?

Navid and BLB- Interesting I will have to see if I can find these Pro-mixes. Do you find they help?

Dennis- Do you see any difference with the mykos?

Hank,
I have been using Mykos  for a few years now. I use it in my vegetable garden and when I pot up from cups to pots. Here's why I like it so much . 4 years ago , I planted 4 Honeycrisp apple trees . I only bought one tube of Mykos , I ran out of it on the 3rd one . So tree #4 was planted without Mykos soil Inoculant . All 4 trees were 2 1/2 ft tall when planted, on M-7 root stock . all with the same amount of light ,air movement and water. trees 1-3 are 12 to 15 ft. tall  and tree #4 is about 7 ft. and not as well branched as the other three. This past October , I harvested close to 200 lbs of honey crisp apples from the 3 trees . While the fourth only gave me twelve apples . They were tasty , but it will be another two years before it catches up with it's siblings .

Can this be added after planting or does it have to be add when you plant?

Hank, I doubt the Azos product provides much benefit to a plant by nitrogen fixation of gaseous nitrogen. Nitrogen fixation is a highly energy dependent process. Free living N2 fixing microorganisms are widely distributed in soils but are restricted in their fixation capacity by the lack of organic material for energy generation. This is why the N2 fixing microorganisms that form symbiotic associations with specialized root structures are the most significant N2 fixers for plants. Sounds like marketing hype to me. Azos may well provide a benefit to plants treated with it by having beneficial microorganisms protect the plant from disease causing microorganisms. The Mykos product that is apparently based on their blend of mycorrhiza is probably pretty good. There are a bunch of books out there on the benefits of mycorrhiza. As several people point out above, many potting mixes come with some mycorrhiza added to the mix. Certainly the ones I use do. I also add the Down to Earth Root Zone with Beneficial Bacteria to my plantings just to be sure.

Jo-Ann, Mycorrhiza containing preps are meant to be sprinkled on root balls early in a plant's life. I typically sprinkle it on my roots when I am moving a rooted cutting out of a cup into a 1 gallon pot.

Just to clarify, the Pro mix I purchased from my local Lowes is the HP fromula not BX. HP stands for High Porosity which could be why I have had such success with minimal or recently no added perlite, it doesn't seem to need it.

Thanx BLB, I'm going to take your advice and starting using the HP Pro-Mix.

Yes. I believe the Mycorrhiza does help a lot.

Thank you Barry, will try to find the and use the PM HP in near future.

Navid.
