What exactly is jackfruit?

Where are you located?

I just yesterday ripped my two foot tall jack fruit trees out of their pots and threw them away, It just seemed pointless keeping them. I still have my biggest one and a Mamey Sapote in pots, but I'm thinking of tossing them too.  Being in a climate where it is far too cold to ever hope to get fruit from them, I just had to bite the bullet and do away with them, despite my caring for them all this time.

I love jackfruit but I think you need to be in PR or Hi to grow it. Durian is one of my favorites too. :)

Tried my first durian ever about 3 weeks ago, let me describe it, the smell of the rind was the best, smelled like a nice cedar to me, texture was amazing as well it was exactly like eating raw pillsbury grands, the problem was the taste, it taste like zeppolis with powdered sugar, mixed with rotten onions and sweaty gym socks, so with all that nastiness the flavor of powdered sugar, so strange so if u think rotten onions and gym socks would taste good with powdered sugar zeppolies on top it's for you, it was truly inedible! So gross! Don't try!

LOL TRY durian! I had my first taste in Singapore last year. Garlicky hint to it, too. I enjoyed the experience, would eat it again but only if sold in small punnet; a whole one would make you throw up. Hotels all over Malaysia and Indonesia don't allow durian fruit inside them due to the rank smell they emanate, but their texture is nice and custardy lol.

Does anyone have a picture of the inside because I have eaten something that looks like that in Florida. It tasted like cotton candy

Jackfruit, depending on the variety, tastes like a cross between pineapple and banana. Durian is a whole different thang.

I don't think they go dormant. They are tropical.  I had to keep mine under a light all through the winter.

Oh sounds like I should hold off till I have my green house than. Thanks for the info

Jackfruit trees grow up to 60 - 80 feet! They fruit from the trunk, too.
