Anything that tastes like Desert King with two crops?

I had a few Desert Kings for a few years. I loved the breba crop. Wonderful flavor and creamy texture and a really nice seed crunch. The problem was the main crop does not ripen here. It grows and matures then falls off the tree without ripening making a big mess. So I gave them all away. The thing is I miss those wonderful breba figs.

Is there anything with similar taste and texture that ripens two crops here? Or at least one good crop without the worthless messy second crop?

I also want to know if desert king only have one crop of Spring or not?

Desret king is grown mainly for its breba crop. As I understand tho it is a comon fig the main crop needs pollination by the fig wasp or it will fall off. I have three in my back yard that I have yet to get any figs from. They were planted last year and top killed over winter but the new growth is about 3 foot tall at this point. Some good winter protection and I'm hoping next year I can taste some for myself

I was wondering the same thing this morning.  Is there something that has a very productive breba crop and a really good tasting main crop as well?  I thought I remembered either Atreano or JH Adriatic being mentioned.  I'd like to keep at least one potted fig that will have a productive breba and main crop.

Desert King is a San Pedro type which means the breba crop ripens without the wasp but the main crop won't ripen without the wasp.  If you want 2 crops where you live you have to have 2 trees.  ;)

DK is the "super" fig here. Reliable & productive. Unfortunately I have not come across any
variant that is as productive as DK for brebas apart from less tasty Gillete. I was informed
by a collecter in Georgia that Granthams Royal comes close to DK standards. Dauphine is a
good candidate to try. Conadria for now looks promising. Will know more about Conadria in
2 years.

Personally ,I like Gentile over DK.My Gentile was send to me by Dr.Leon some years back.
Gentile is also a breba only fig in my area, but is really a great fig.Ciao,
Giuseppe

Just found this post by Herman. Looks like Atreano and Tacoma Violet have been productive for him breba-wise. Herman, do you have any additional input on this?

I have nothing to add, they remain my best Breba producers, two crop figs.
By the way,I grew Desert King, and my climate it is such, that most years the Breba embryos dies from frost and so I am left with nothing.
Of course In the Pacific North west the Winter are mild and Desert King is the best Breba Possible.
Yet If I was in the Pacific North west,I will try Atreano, and Tacoma Violet, because they are relatively new comers and they were not trialed in the climate where Desert King is the King.
Desert King might lose it's crown, when grown side by side with these 2,as they will be churning fruits continuously long before DK,ended it's production.
And second crop,on Desert king, even when persist, sometime,it tastes like cardboard,I had them, and so I know.

Paully22, you often say, "here" in your posts but your sig doesn't have your location!  Fill us in!

Atreano is available in nursery stores here. Unfortunately the breba crop is almost non existence from Vancouver to the Fraser Valley. Takoma Violet suffers similar fate. The sudden cold in spring weather is the main culprit. As for main crop, the quick change to cold weather by late Sept is of no help. Perhaps next season I will keep them in the greenhouse. I notice Adriano's Paradiso does produce a decent breba crop.

Encouraging feedback on Gentile. I have been taking too many cuttings from my tree. Will let it grow this year.

paully22,
Do you know which Atreano cultivar you have, or is being sold in your area? There seems to be information that there is more than one cultivar being distributed as Atreano . Thanks.

Not sure whether the Atreano's were local(Canadian) or USA. I see many Monrovia(USA) fig trees & other plants here. My Atreano was sourced from Jon when phyto certification cost was cheap then. I was lucky to get a bunch of keeper variants from Jon(Thanks). I have both strains of Atreano -- RR and OR. Then, Jon had said the original(OR) was better.

Sounds like I'll have to keep a copy of Atreano and Tacoma Violet around in pots!  Does anyone know whether the Atreano from OGW is the either the RR or OR strain?

For what it's worth, my Danny's Delight (just a skinny little thing) put on at least 6 breba after its first winter.  I left 3 on to see how they taste.
