Are these edible?

Hi, I chanced upon your website while looking at what tree is in our garden. Now I know it's figs but I wonder if they are edible or not. Over these many years we had it, no one dared to eat it, only the bats. It's also grown immensely tall and we are thinking of chopping it off. It would be a pity if it dies after that. My questions are therefore: if we do chop it off, how much left of the tree do we have to maintain?
2) from these pictures - do you think that they are edible?

Thanks so much for any information. Am really hoping to save a tree.

That tree looks huge. Where about are you located? Can you pick a fig and show the insides? If they are edible I would get a ladder and start picking. :)

Ficus racemosa, known as cluster fig tree. Common in India and generally far eastern countries, it is edible, but not a tasty fig.

Are you sure that isn't Ficus sycamorus? I'm not sure how to tell the difference, but they look like the trees I saw in Israel.

Yes it's about 5 storeys high at least. The fruits smell like figs

the growth habit of the fruits (stalks) looks the same the as the sycamore fig.

anyhow if it aint got any live wasps inside i'd take a bite :)

Looks like Ficus Sycamores. Check out this video, it's really good.
