Are you smarter that a Fig expert?

It's game time boys and girls!!!!  Are you smarter than a fig expert?  In the photo below are 6 figs picked today.  Do you know which is which?  Each fig came from a different tree.  There are no duplicates.  Do you know which fig is which????  Here is a hint, if you know around what time of year figs ripen, you might have a chance.

1.  Black Mission
2.  Green Turkey (unknown fig from NC)
3.  Dark Portuguese
4.  Marseilles VS
5.  Black Mission
6.  Brunswick
7.  Gino's
8.  Atreano
9.  Hardy Chicago
10.  Pop's Pink Fig from the Galapagos Island
11.  Aunt Suzis's Alaska Fig (bears 1 fast crop in summer)

The correct answer will be given tomorrow.  Good luck!
cheers!

I certainly am no fig expert (though I do know a thing or 2+).
Not enough "evidence" shown. Specially them unknown figs.
Really, what does it take to make one an expert?

Gorgi, it's just a fun game.  Come on, give it your best shot!

The bottom ones is most likely green turkey and a Brunswick. The top ones I can see a hardy chicago, dark portuguese, and a marseille vs.

WOW!  That's very very good Bass!!!  I guess its time to give the answer!

and the answer is from left to right , top to bottom>>>>>>>>>

Hardy Chicago, Gino's, Dark Portuguese, Marseille VS
Green Turkey and Brunswick

Good luck if you chose the correct fig!

I thought number 10 and 11 were very funny!  And, most Black Mission figs ripen late especially in my area. Ok, now is time to report how sweet were the figs.

The sweetest fig was Brunswick.  It was almost pure sugar!  Next was Gino's, man that fig was good; very rich! Third was Green Turkey.  If you remember my previous post, I meantion that I have a green unknown sweet fig.  Bass said to call it Green Turkey, so I did.

I thought it would be fun to play a game and post pictures and have others try to pick the correct fig cultivar.  Its been a long wait for me, buying small trees and cuttings, feeding and caring for them for 2 years and now to reap the harvest is just pure fun.  And not to mention that Tuesday is my birthday!  I just wanted to play around and have some fun with my harvest.  Happy fig harvest every one and thank you to all those I've purchased fig trees and cuttings from the past 2 years (Herman, Bass, Jon, KK, Sue, etc).  Many thanks and cheers!

Honestly, I gave up too early and not even closely "examined" the pics.
You experts, have some fig-fun...

CORRECT TOM!!!!!!!  Numbers 10 and 11 were trick answers!  Come on!!!!  There are only animals on Galapagos islands...only a handful of people live there.  And think about number 11, fig in Alaska???  Come on......figs don't grow in Alaska.  At least I don't know of any!   Hehehehehe  this was a lot of fun.

Heck, this is a really fig-naming-crazy nightmare!
Pic post #6, above green (handle) knife - them figs ( HC,G, DP, MVS)
all do look the same to me!

The top row all look the same to me as well.  Delicious!  :)

Dennis Dennis
what gives its been less than an hour and ya gave away the answers!!!
They do look different least to me.

In particular the Hardy Chicago which is one of my elders i have.
Either your plant is very young or you took the seeds out of it as the insides are different than mine.
Where the heck are the seeds in HC ?

Yesterday temperatures reached 101 degrees which is why I think my figs are starting to ripen so fast.  I water my trees twice a day.  The top figs gave me the idea for the game.  They looked the same but their taste was totally different.  And Martin, this was my second Hardy Chicago from my tree.  All my trees are 2 years old except for only a few in ground trees and 3 container trees.  I don't know about the seeds.  I'm going to plant this tree in the ground this Fall and see how "hardy" it really is.  My brunswick was growing in a container for 2 years until this Spring.  Last year every fig on that tree split and soured but not this year.  Looks like all my figs on the tree will ripen.  I can not get over how sweet and thick the Brunswick fig was.  Out of all my trees planted in the ground, I watered this tree the least.  I was going to wait until today and reveal the answers but I felt the test was too hard for some.

Since I got the closest answer, what do I win?

Bass,

Probably nothing other than an expert tittle.
My congrats.

Aren't you glad that you did win one of my
tangible Sal(C) starters at/for organizing that recent NE meet!
