I am getting a fair crop from my Arkansas unknown this year. I started it from a local tree spring 2014 and got a couple figs last year. But I think I picked them too soon last year because they were full of latex and not very good.
This year I let them hang until they dropped to the grass. They have a good, figgy taste and fairly sweet. Also, the skin is not smooth but has some texture, more than my other figs. You might say the skin is very slightly fuzzy. I would give the overall taste 6 out of 10. They are not as good as my Negronne (9 out of 10) or Hardy Chicago (8 out of 10), but well worth growing.
Do you think it is perhaps Brunswick type? It does not taste or look like the Brown Turkeys that I have seen around here.
I know the mother tree is cold hardy here because it is 20+ years old. I am going to cover it for the first few years until the trunks get around 2 inch diameter at the bases, but after that I think it will do fine.
