Well I guess I have really made that man above mad at me one time or another! The picture below is our Hayfield being ravaged by Army Worms, I hope they don't come up and eat my fig trees & plants
I'd cuss but don't want Jon, joining in with Jesus and punishing me!(the brown part is what Army Worms do to Coastal Bermuda grass)

I heard of different worms, like red worms and stuff but never army worms .
That term does not sound too friendly though .
Gee Cecil you grounds have giving ya some problems this year, gophers, worms, RkN, i probably missed a few.
Only advise i can give you well you know what i mentioned in past how to grow a fig tree by you other than in that soil of yours i dont want to sound like a broken record.
Hey Cecil ,
if at night you ever see different colored lights shinning down on your property from the sky my advise pack the family as fast as ya can in that there truck and get outta dodge.  ; )

I saw them lights last night
DUMB STUPID ME, I thought it was a flock of airplanes!

Martin Google army worms, you can see the things.

Hey Martin, here ya go, them bad boyz are food for us Humanoids
I think I will see if Fig picker wants to make some Banana Worm Bread............On 2nd thought, I'll pass on that.
EDIT.........Fig Picker said "not on your life"

Banana Worm Bread

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
2 bananas, mashed
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 eggs
1/4 cup dry-roasted army worms

Cecil,
hmm instead of bananas use perhaps a cup of nice and ripe figs, the worms just add protein and you would never know they are there.  ; )

I am siding with my little wife

"NOT ON YOUR LIFE"

I have tons of the critters AND YOUR ADDRESS remember!
If ya want some I'll ship then to ya, even spring for the shipping!

Ah i just looked em up, its like a caterpillar as i had visions of something similar to an earthworm instead.
Hmm damaging little critter and they like Hayfields i see. Wonder if they like say fig roots or vegtable roots .
Darn Cecil you got practically every critter imaginable over your way.
Grow your figs in them plastic 55g barrels cut in half if there abundant your way and never worry bout some of them critters again.

Martin,

I might just do that, the barrel thing.

I will not put anything I have in pots now in the ground until I get my soil report back, maybe not then.

Hey Cecil
Does your worms look anything like these ones
I have tons of these follows around my place
but my hayfield doesn't look like that
I had watermellons close to where i found these worms and the tips of the plants died off it could have something to do with them

Have a look

Cecil,
UGH, And to think I've been cursing the cold and rain here.

The old adage, "There is always someone else worse off" is true. Sorry, Cecil, better move north. LOL.

As of the first week in August all the Robins in my yard packed up and left as did all the other birds and the rabbits, squirrels, and the hated chipmunks that eat everything including Figs. This sort of makes up for the cold and wet and I've had a good fig harvest in spite of it.

Today I picked the most beautiful fig. I almost missed it. Sorry I can't post a picture. It looks similar to the figs at the top of the page on GW/FF. It is perfect and looks more like a Delicious apple than a fig. It weighed in at exactly 1/4 lb. slightly more than 100 Gr.
It is so pretty I haven't cut into it yet but others on this tree tasted good. I'm sort of showing it off to comments of, Wow, what a fig! I don't know the name of it nor its origin but I'll keep it.

Thanks for the picture

That looks nothing like the ones I have

i have something similar to that they are on trees in some kind of web
and eat all the leaves within the web no idea what they are called though

Cecil,

It seems that you haven't mentioned one critter, the fire ant. If you don't have any, I can send you a box full. They are really bad this year.

I have 2 daughters that are struggling with army worms in their pastures.

The recovery is coming along fine and I will post some pictures soon of the storm damage and the fig recovery. It's still depressing to walk around and remember how it was before the storms.

Best Regards,

Jack

Oh no Jack,

We have plenty fire ants around here, I wish I could train them to eat RKN and Gophers

And I know how proud of your collection ya use to be!

Sometimes Mother Nature can be really cruel!

I have seen them worms on my prune tree some years ago  -- they have a web like nest with hundreds of them. I have burn them and sprayed them. I see them most often on  walnut trees.

Cecil, your hayfield really looked good in some of the springtime pictures.  How many hay cuttings did you get?  Those worms really did a number on your field.  Is this an annul occurrence of army worms?

Looks like a gypsy moth caterpillar.  Cecil....BT

once again.....BT.....

Right now my problem seems to be possums or raccoons (and the ever-present squirrels).

~Chills

Hi C.H.

We have gotten two cuttings and was nearly ready for the third and last cutting, normally we get four cuttings but last year and this year we have been having a pretty bad drought! We will still get another cutting but it won't be up to par because of the Army Worms.

Now to Chills
Ya shot that BT over my head??

Now to Tom
The Army Worms turn in to Moths after they do the Wormy thing!

I hope I have kinda answered ever one.
