1)Do my cuttings need air? 
 started dominicks sweet diana cuttings ,used 1/2 gallon pots seed starting mix and put a ziplock over the pots so they are air tight . do they need air??
2) my two fig trees from JF&E planing on putting them in containers (12-15 gallon size).
  what  are the pros using for potting mix?

I'm not an expert but I can tell you what I do with good success.
I use 70% pearlite and 30% promix in a clear plastic cups,
Place in a warm place out of sunlight And keep moist until you see lots of roots then put in a gallon pot.

Cuttings need air, or they start to mold.....in our area we have a lot of gnats. I cover mine with a ziploc bag, and I poke several holes with a sewing needle.

Joe - Glad to see you're starting the Sweet Diana's.  You're going to love them!

Do your pots have holes in them?  If they do, just lift up the bag to air out once a day.  Don't overwater.

Get the feel of the weight of the pot with no water in it.  Then water it and feel the difference in weight.  Try to keep the weight of the pot on the lighter side.

I second the air and the over watering.  There are several threads with tons of info on rooting cuttings, if you spend a little time reading them two things will happen.  

1) You will learn everything you ever need to know and then some
2) Your head will start to spin from information overload

There are many ways to root cuttings, most are pretty evenly matched for success, just keep in mind everyone has different success with different methods until they discover and settle into "what works for them".

This is my first year rooting, I am trying 5 different methods to see what I like and what works for me.   Also some cutting root very fast other can take a long time, some are much easier to root than others.  Be patient and never give up them.

yes danny got 4 of them in today , thanks scott doing research on cuttings now, have a starter kit of cuttings coming this week from  Aaron  going to try different  methods.

I am currently in the "information overload" stage after several days of reading! I am currently trying a few different methods to find the one that works for me. Keep us informed :)

Good luck guys I'm sure you will do well.  The hard party for me is watching from a distance, I'm used to things that need constant supervision and tweaking. 

I have too force myself to not water and mess with them. .. it's hard! But I like challenges! !!

Next year well be even better.
