at what temp do you put them back in?

We are having 65+ almost everday, with lows only in the upper 30s. So I pulled my potted figs out of the shed. Now I just saw they are forecasting mid 20s for lows this weekend. At what temp should I move them back inside? I am thinking if the forecast is for anything lower than 28, I should move them in that afternoon. What say  yea?

It seems like it would be risky to encourage them to come out of dormancy too soon - although maybe your shed is even warmer than outdoors?  I would put them back in if the forecasted low is freezing or below. But it's easier said than done, I know, and I'm not the one moving the heavy pots.  Defintely agree that a forecast of 28 deg would warrant moving them back in.

Once they are budding out with leaves or figs, then temps of freezing could kill the new growth, setting the plants back and erasing any gain you hope to make with the fig shuffle.

So it sounds like they should go back in at a forecast of 34-35, just to make sure I don't lose ground?

The only reason these were in the shed was that they were all first year plants and I did not want them inground over the winter in case it was a harsh one. But they are WAY ahead of my inground trees and it is making me think about keeping at least one in a pot to move in and out each year. The additional length of growing season would be nice.

Hi Genedaniels,
I often compare fig trees to tomato plants .

If the buds are just greening, you would be safe with lows above 5°C / 40°F - So no leaf, no stem growth.
If you have big softie leaves and green stem growth , you would be safe above 15°C/ 59°F .
If you have hardened leaves, you would be safe with lows above 10°C / 50 °F.

You can play with the limits, but you might see burned edges on the leaves .

Of course throwing a plastic sheet - for making a cheap greenhouse - over the pots will help them - but definitively I wouldn't attempt to go under 2°C / 36°F .
Now where are those 4 stakes ? :)

I've decided to just cover them with plastic drums each evening that they are forecasting low temps. I have several water barrels that are currently unused, so this will be very easy to do. I think it will be enough since the temps will only drop for a couple hours in the early morning before worming back up.
